Duder you bring up Pat Dye. What i dont understand is most not all auburn fans think he is the greatest coach ever at auburn, but he pretty much ruined your football program. I dont know why he is so revered in Auburn.
One of the glaring questions I have about Auburn is this. I know it's a brand new offensive scheme, but I don't quite understand why they bring in the true Frosh QB for the wildcat plays when Frazier was the wildcat guy last year?

Number of SEC titles before Pat Dye in auburn's first 49 years in the SEC - ONE
Number of SEC titles under Dye during his twelve years - FOUR
Number of SEC titles in the twenty years since Dye - TWO
Literally my only memory of him at UT is "the guy that wore his hat backwards."
I was far too young to follow, or care, about anything but watching TE games back then.
I strongly suspect if you knew of those days you'd have been railing against him being hired in Auburn.
What you are seeing now with discipline problems, attrition, etc. is the very same thing that happened at UT when he was there.
It really hit me last year when Auburn was the "winner" of the Fulmer Cup. The cups first year was a direct result of him being on that staff.
I saw someone mention how a lot of Bama fans talk about Auburn as being "East Georgia" when they should be saying "Tennessee South."

Because he's unwilling, or unable to run with authority. He's shying away from contact.
Statically he is the 2nd best coach in terms of win/loss/tie percentage. Dye is the only coach to 4 - 10 win season. Jordan is the only one with 3 - 10 win seasons, and both Bowden and Tubberville had 2 - 10 win seasons. Not to mention his SEC titles...

Because he's unwilling, or unable to run with authority. He's shying away from contact.
In the AU games I've watched, I noticed he has appeared very reluctant to run the ball. I've wondered if he was avoiding contact, or if the coaches have been drilling into him "We are a pro style offense now, the QB doesn't run the ball in a pro style. You have got to stay in the pocket and throw the ball."
Duder, what have you heard in regards to change down there?
I work with a doctor that is absolutely ate up with all things Auburn. (He is a Samford grad). I digress. I was talking with him yesterday and he was telling me of someone well connected on a message board that has spoken of many things in the past that have all come to fruition. In other words he puts a lot of stock into what this person is saying. (It is on the internet so it has to be true, right?) Word is that AU will do an overhaul of the coaching staff similar to what we saw at UT this past year. It appears that Troopuh, and Loopuh will both be gone while allowing Van Gorder to have some say as to who is hired to help him defensively. Not sure about Loeffler (sp?). Does any of this seem to ring true with scuttle-butt you might have heard? The person seemed to state what you said in the fact that Chiz gets another year.
Can't complain other than the atrocities I force myself to endure on Saturdays. Our one win was far from satisfying...
Newton- 100% yes
Chizik's goodwill expired in my mind about 28 points into the LSU game last season. Very, very good man. Great DC. That's all I got. Players aren't being developed. A lot of the assistants aren't carrying their weight and ultimately that is Gene's job to address. 5 games into the season our HC should not be saying we need a damn offensive identity. Either Loeffler sucks (jury is still out) or Chizik is cutting his legs, which he did with Gus.
All that said, he likely gets one more season. He at least lasts through signing day. The recruiting class is too strong for wholesale changes and a bulk of it will hold together if most of the staff stays in place.
As for people I'd like to see umm...changed: Grimes, Thigpen, Trooper and possibly Pelton.
Grimes was very good with a line 4 seniors. Thigpen has been underwhelming outside of recruiting. Same with Troop. He did a great job with DA, T-Zac and Kodi. That's it. Emory Blake is a gifted player. He'd be good anywhere. We're week across the board outside of Blake.
There is NO excuse for the DL play. None. There is too much talent for them to still look like freshman.
BVG has done well in my opinion. The D is improving. The jury is out on Loeffler. I think he can work. With our OL and QB play this year Bill Walsh would look like a crap coach. I don't actually put a lot of the offense on him.

Duder, let me echo the sentiment that others have put forth - you are indeed a classy "dude" and welcome rival fan on this Board. Always level headed, you typically don't let emotion cloud your opinions and that is very refreshing.
OK, two things for me. First just an honest question. You mention that Chizik is a good man and I noticed Pat Dye saying that numerous times in interviews and most recently on Finebaum yesterday. In your opinion, is Chizik really more of a puppet as many have suggested acquiescing to Dye and others? Is that the way he is referred to as a "good" guy. I have to be honest; I have always wondered about his integrity for a variety of reasons. Second, what of Pat Dye? We all know the "official" story that he is just a fan (as he said himself), but what is the truth as believed within Auburn circles in your opinion? Seems to me that Mr. Dye still wields a heavy stick. He is also staunchly supportive of Chizik which raises an issue that involves them both. With the possible exception of last year to a degree, Auburn has recruited extremely well the last several years in a row. Why are we not seeing high performing, highly-recruited players playing lights out on the field at this point. Yes, Cam was once in a lifetime, but there are many 4 stars and some 5 stars the last few years and I would think AU would be showing better on the field. Doesn't that point to poor coaching and development? And why doesn't that, in turn, point to Chizik? Is it because of Dye's support? I would think anywhere else Chizik would be on the hot seat in a big way and yet he seems perfectly safe. I also think that probably anywhere outside of The Plains, Chizik is not even a head coach right now, or put another way, if he was canned, he would not be picked up as HC any time soon from a top tier program.
Your thoughts?
Terry, the only time I know for sure Troop wasn't out recruiting was last Friday during the Auburn/Carver game. I don't remember who it was off the top of my head but he was out to visit some kid the previous Friday.

i thought they showed him standing on the sideline of the auburn/carver game? maybe he wasnt technically recruiting....but their biggest recruit was on the field.
I think with all the fallout, something that is being overlooked is the fact that Chiz has a NICE FAT buyout of $7.5 million. IF the powers that be dump him on his azz this season, there goes a HUGE chunk of change and then they have to turn around and try to pony up another hefty contract to lure the next HC in there. I think that as bad as it looks, they powers that be are having to ride out the season and possibly 1 more before they show Chiz the door. I think the buyout drops $2.5 million each year.
