🏈 I figure this will be entertaining--fire away

Duder you bring up Pat Dye. What i dont understand is most not all auburn fans think he is the greatest coach ever at auburn, but he pretty much ruined your football program. I dont know why he is so revered in Auburn.

Number of SEC titles before Pat Dye in auburn's first 49 years in the SEC - ONE
Number of SEC titles under Dye during his twelve years - FOUR
Number of SEC titles in the twenty years since Dye - TWO

One of the glaring questions I have about Auburn is this. I know it's a brand new offensive scheme, but I don't quite understand why they bring in the true Frosh QB for the wildcat plays when Frazier was the wildcat guy last year?

Because he's unwilling, or unable to run with authority. He's shying away from contact.

This sort of nails it. I'm just unwilling to forget the fact that he destroyed us on the way out.

Literally my only memory of him at UT is "the guy that wore his hat backwards."

I was far too young to follow, or care, about anything but watching TE games back then.

I strongly suspect if you knew of those days you'd have been railing against him being hired in Auburn.

What you are seeing now with discipline problems, attrition, etc. is the very same thing that happened at UT when he was there.

It really hit me last year when Auburn was the "winner" of the Fulmer Cup. The cups first year was a direct result of him being on that staff.

I saw someone mention how a lot of Bama fans talk about Auburn as being "East Georgia" when they should be saying "Tennessee South."

Hindsight and all...

Though the irony of winning a Fulmer Cup with a UT coach on board is not lost on me.

Statically he is the 2nd best coach in terms of win/loss/tie percentage. Dye is the only coach to 4 - 10 win season. Jordan is the only one with 3 - 10 win seasons, and both Bowden and Tubberville had 2 - 10 win seasons. Not to mention his SEC titles...

In the AU games I've watched, I noticed he has appeared very reluctant to run the ball. I've wondered if he was avoiding contact, or if the coaches have been drilling into him "We are a pro style offense now, the QB doesn't run the ball in a pro style. You have got to stay in the pocket and throw the ball."

I understand all that, but he trashed the program on his way out. If I was a fan I would not like him at all. Just Dubose... I hope him and his staff never come back to Bama.

Duder, what have you heard in regards to change down there?

I work with a doctor that is absolutely ate up with all things Auburn. (He is a Samford grad). I digress. I was talking with him yesterday and he was telling me of someone well connected on a message board that has spoken of many things in the past that have all come to fruition. In other words he puts a lot of stock into what this person is saying. (It is on the internet so it has to be true, right?) Word is that AU will do an overhaul of the coaching staff similar to what we saw at UT this past year. It appears that Troopuh, and Loopuh will both be gone while allowing Van Gorder to have some say as to who is hired to help him defensively. Not sure about Loeffler (sp?). Does any of this seem to ring true with scuttle-butt you might have heard? The person seemed to state what you said in the fact that Chiz gets another year.

He ran the same way last year, watch some highlights (using that term loosely) of him from last season. He only ran with authority a few times. He is struggling with the fact he's no longer the best athlete on the field at all times.

Loeffler may end up being the fall guy, which I think is total BS.

I've been told Troop will be fine. Luper won't be fired nor asked to resign. Save Blakely, the backs have done their job this year. Grimes isn't 100% safe.

As for the D, I gather Thig will be Ted Roofed and Pelton probably goes. Anything on the defensive side changes if what I've heard about BVG being pissed is true. If he stays the only defensive coach that is safe is Martinez.

So, as I've been told recently, the ones in the safe house are: Chizik, probably Loeffler, Boulware, Luper, BVG and Martinez. The rest may find themselves out of a job one way or another.

I have a few friends in the athletic department. I'm aware that some level of damage control has already started with recruits that are tight with a few coaches. But, anything can change.

If we go out and sh.. the bed against the rest of our schedule, no one is safe.

I can tell you there is a lot of money that wants Chizik and Jacobs gone.

RJ, the person the doctor is referring to posts on P. Marshall's site. It's a lady who posts under AUGirl7—or something very close to that. She made a post the other day indicating a lot of what you've said and when questioned about it Marshall said "she's in a position to know."

I read the post somewhere, but I can't recall where it was. The gist of it had to do with some of the coaches being cancerous to the team, there was some clear division between players, and a few other things were touched on.

I didn't pay close attention to the thread I saw the posted pasted, and didn't pay much attention to comments contained in the thread: just skimmed it.

She did indicate Chizik was back for a year. And, she also indicated there was going to be some staff movement and seemed to point to Trooper or Luper, or both.

On that note, I've also seen accounts of Trooper being at home the last few weeks on Friday nights. It begs the question why is he at home when other staff members are on the road recruiting.

Can't complain other than the atrocities I force myself to endure on Saturdays. Our one win was far from satisfying...

Newton- 100% yes

Chizik's goodwill expired in my mind about 28 points into the LSU game last season. Very, very good man. Great DC. That's all I got. Players aren't being developed. A lot of the assistants aren't carrying their weight and ultimately that is Gene's job to address. 5 games into the season our HC should not be saying we need a damn offensive identity. Either Loeffler sucks (jury is still out) or Chizik is cutting his legs, which he did with Gus.

All that said, he likely gets one more season. He at least lasts through signing day. The recruiting class is too strong for wholesale changes and a bulk of it will hold together if most of the staff stays in place.

As for people I'd like to see umm...changed: Grimes, Thigpen, Trooper and possibly Pelton.

Grimes was very good with a line 4 seniors. Thigpen has been underwhelming outside of recruiting. Same with Troop. He did a great job with DA, T-Zac and Kodi. That's it. Emory Blake is a gifted player. He'd be good anywhere. We're week across the board outside of Blake.

There is NO excuse for the DL play. None. There is too much talent for them to still look like freshman.

BVG has done well in my opinion. The D is improving. The jury is out on Loeffler. I think he can work. With our OL and QB play this year Bill Walsh would look like a crap coach. I don't actually put a lot of the offense on him.

Duder, let me echo the sentiment that others have put forth - you are indeed a classy "dude" and welcome rival fan on this Board. Always level headed, you typically don't let emotion cloud your opinions and that is very refreshing.

OK, two things for me. First just an honest question. You mention that Chizik is a good man and I noticed Pat Dye saying that numerous times in interviews and most recently on Finebaum yesterday. In your opinion, is Chizik really more of a puppet as many have suggested acquiescing to Dye and others? Is that the way he is referred to as a "good" guy. I have to be honest; I have always wondered about his integrity for a variety of reasons. Second, what of Pat Dye? We all know the "official" story that he is just a fan (as he said himself), but what is the truth as believed within Auburn circles in your opinion? Seems to me that Mr. Dye still wields a heavy stick. He is also staunchly supportive of Chizik which raises an issue that involves them both. With the possible exception of last year to a degree, Auburn has recruited extremely well the last several years in a row. Why are we not seeing high performing, highly-recruited players playing lights out on the field at this point. Yes, Cam was once in a lifetime, but there are many 4 stars and some 5 stars the last few years and I would think AU would be showing better on the field. Doesn't that point to poor coaching and development? And why doesn't that, in turn, point to Chizik? Is it because of Dye's support? I would think anywhere else Chizik would be on the hot seat in a big way and yet he seems perfectly safe. I also think that probably anywhere outside of The Plains, Chizik is not even a head coach right now, or put another way, if he was canned, he would not be picked up as HC any time soon from a top tier program.

Your thoughts?

Terry you are spot on. That is indeed the one I was talking about. Like I said, my doctor is ate up with all that stuff and was showing me the info posted. He seemed to put a lot into what she says and seems to think that if she posts it, that it is usually the Auburn gospel. I guess time will tell.

Terry, the only time I know for sure Troop wasn't out recruiting was last Friday during the Auburn/Carver game. I don't remember who it was off the top of my head but he was out to visit some kid the previous Friday.

I think with all the fallout, something that is being overlooked is the fact that Chiz has a NICE FAT buyout of $7.5 million. IF the powers that be dump him on his azz this season, there goes a HUGE chunk of change and then they have to turn around and try to pony up another hefty contract to lure the next HC in there. I think that as bad as it looks, they powers that be are having to ride out the season and possibly 1 more before they show Chiz the door. I think the buyout drops $2.5 million each year.

There are probably 1,000 different answers to this question; I'll give you mine.

First and foremost--Pat Dye is NOT just a fan. I'm an AU fan. I was recruited to play football at Auburn. I'm not allowed free reign at the athletic department. I certainly don't have an office down there.

It will sound like I'm talking out both sides of my mouth at times because this is a rather complicated answer. But the easy part, I say Gene is a good guy because he is. I've spoken with him a few times. The Christian/"God Thing" stuff isn't a show. Poorly worded as it is at times, his religion factors heavily into his life.

Now on to Dye--he is a staunch supporter or Chizik because A) he was a great defensive coach B) he could have some measure of influence and was welcome, unlike during Tuberville's era. I wouldn't go so far as to say Chizik is a puppet but Dye doesn't just come observe. He doesn't have the ultimate power many imply, but he's not an innocent by-stander by any stretch.

Why is Dye allowed around and have any stroke? Why is Chizik safe? Jay Jacobs. Jay played for Coach Dye. Dye allowed him to walk-on then gave him a scholarship. They are tight. It isn't the Dye/Chizik dynamic that needs to be looked at, it is Dye/Jacobs. This my stern belief Jay needs to go.

We have recruited on par with you guys and LSU for the last what, 3-4 years? There is no excuse for the level of play. I don't care if Kiehl was an option QB in high school. An open receiver looks the same regardless of scheme, no? Malzahn ran the ball--A LOT. The line shouldn't be struggling this bad. We shouldn't have the level of off-field problems we have. We don't have strong leadership on the team or from the coaches. Without strong leadership, that many egos are sure to flare at some point. I blame Chizik and Jacobs. I just think Dye needs to go hunt and fish all day. Let him have his weekly spot on Finebaum, let him on the field or in the box at home games but keep him the hell out of offices.

I think I managed to get through that without contradicting myself. That answer your question?

Terry, the only time I know for sure Troop wasn't out recruiting was last Friday during the Auburn/Carver game. I don't remember who it was off the top of my head but he was out to visit some kid the previous Friday.

i thought they showed him standing on the sideline of the auburn/carver game? maybe he wasnt technically recruiting....but their biggest recruit was on the field.

Correct. His son plays for Auburn also so I didn't consider it actually "recruiting"

Not being overlooked, per se, just not a deal breaker. We're going to hemorrhage cash if we keep losing.

Plus, it isn't a lump payment. It is paid over the remainder of his contract.
