Looking forward to a good game down in Tuscaloosa on Saturday. Not much interested in talking smack and I'm looking forward to having some good football conversations with you Tide fans this coming week.

Go Cocks!

Welcome aboard, Goon squad. We have a lot of respect for your HC of course, and your DC is well known (and respected) by us Bama types.

Yeah I've heard about Ellis Johnson being around Alabama back in '92.

He's a great guy, knew him when he was at the Citadel, and I coach with a guy who used to coach with him.

Spurrier seems a lot more upbeat about this team, hopefully that translates to a non-meltdown this season.

We've started the first half of our season 5-1 the last 3 years...

You're in the right place, Goon. Glad you came by.

So what are your initial thoughts going into this one?

Well, my heart says that we match up well going against Bama's pro-style offense and our defense won't do as bad as they did against UK. The UGA game points are misleading, UGA scored so much due to special teams miscues that put them inside our 40 to start drives multiple times (which has been fixed as of late).

Offensively, we have a lot of weapons to work with that may be known or unknown to you.

Obviously, Stephen Garcia will be key to any chance of a Gamecocks victory. Bama is going to bring the heat from their 3-4 defense, and Garcia HAS to know where to throw the ball behind them.

At receiver we have many capable options from a previous #1 WR recruiting class. We have more height than speed though but they run great routes. These receivers IMO are Tori Gurley, Alshon Jeffery, Moe Brown (only true deep threat starting), Jason Barnes, and Dion Lecorn. That gives us 5 viable options and hopefully at least 2 can put pressure on Bama's secondary.

At tight end we have an All-SEC capable one in Weslye Saunders, the guy looks like an OL and runs like a WR (possession WR lol). But, despite being so big, he is a marginal blocker. No other true threats to state here.

I made a big write up on our OL here: http://rolltidebama.com/forum/showthread.php?t=63036

Defensively, Norwood and Cliff Matthews will have to come up big in this game to put Bama in bad 3rd down situations. UK did a great job of putting themselves in great 3rd down situations (3rd and 1, 2, etc.) We can't allow Alabama to be able to pound the ball to get the first down on 3rd down because more than likely they will be able to do so at will.

That being said, if we can put you guys in bad situations, we have one of the most talented young secondaries in the NCAA and I feel pretty good about getting you to 4th down. C.C. Whitlock proved last weekend he was as good as advertised and Gilmore is shutdown, Bama wanted him for a reason. Culliver has all the ability in the world, and Darian Stewart hits like a mac truck from the SS position.

When Rich Brooks made the decision to try to convert a 4th down instead of just taking three points and continuing I thought it was a stupid, stupid decision.

It shocked me, to be honest. Brooks usually makes pretty solid calls.

I'd bet he wished he had that call back...

Yeah he probably does, but hey, hindsight is 20/20 and we made the plays to win the game.

I had forgotten USCe was 5-1 the last few years:dazed:

I expect Bama to kinda sleep walk through the 1st half and win by a couple of TDs in the end:a:

This is perhaps the mother of all trap games. Spurrier being the piece of work he is will have his team ready. There is a small piece of me that is screaming UPSET but my common sense says Bama is the best team in the country.

I'm pulling for Bama to win for 2 reasons:

1.) I was raised believing that there was true evil in the world and his name was Steve Spurrier

2.) I would like nothing more than UT to be the team that dropkicks Bama from title contention.(nothing personal just rival fandom)

Oh, don't get me wrong. I'm not discounting the win at all.

I see a lot pointing to Alshon (and I did give him a game ball in my column this week) but in all honesty, the guy who won that game for you was Chris Culliver.

At least, that's how I see it.

pssst . . . Bama ain't Georgia.

What have you been smoking in your corncob pipe, cuz?
