I can't help but think he's a terrible hire and he's yet to coach a game. Every time he opens his mouth he says something that leaves me perplexed...to the point, I wonder if he suffers from a brain injury of some type. My favorite, "...I'll tell you what now - you're not only recruiting kids, sometimes you're trying to recruit the parent, too..." No shit Sherlock, naturally you're recruiting the parents...always have been.

Not to mention his AD (ex-agent) who hired him.

I envision them getting a barbershop soon, they'll have a show and it will be called "Shit Show".

I’m not sure the level of talent that he has to work with at Az st, but cutting some guys that he may recognize as a problem for team unity is a good move for a first-year coach. Instant increase in discipline and obviously bringing up a standard. Could also be trying to scare them straight. Lol

IMO, Herm is just demonstrating that there's a new sheriff in town who won't put up with complacency or lack of effort. The first cut will demonstrate that he isn't kidding and others will start putting forth an effort.
