🏈 Here's another for you to look at: Fumble, or down by contact? (NFL rules, remember.)

Down by Contact:
A player making a catch is down by contact once a defender makes contact with them.
No Contact and the Ground:
If a player is not contacted by an opponent, they are not down, and they can get back up.
 
If he's not touched he's still considered live.
The ball isn't a part of the body; it's equipment. So that doesn't count as contact and it should remain "live." There's certainly contact other than the ball: so close together!

My "common sense" tells me punching the ball out when his knee is down isn't a fumble.

Another day with a bit of self-introspection: I'm not cut out to be an official.

So if ball comes out while knee is down on ground and someone touch him and punch the ball at same time the. What?
