🏈 Gus to the barn

As an ASU fan and someone that put in 3 years as the chaplain of the football team there for Joe Hollis in the late 90's and early 00's I am very disappointed in Gus. The ASU fan base is crushed. Gus offered me a job one time when he was a high school coach in Arkansas and I was an assistant at Arkansas Tech. I didn't take the job. If I had played my cards right I could be coaching at Auburn, lol.

I hate Auburn!

The situations aren't exactly the same, but this gus hire really feels like a "Mike Shula can weather the storm" type of hire.

How much actual control does the power structure above him let him have to run the program?
"hey Gus, we'll let you do this and this and that".

Someone mentioned gus was the 'anti-Saban'......aaaaand why would a program want the antithesis of success?

Loved the earlier comments about how a finesse offense hurts defensive prowess, that is spot on, imo.
The whole idea is to have all areas of the team (philosophy) work in harmony.
That being said, it still comes down to recruiting the right guys for the philosophy AND DEVELOPING them.

100% new coaching staff.

Well, at least he will run the ship he wants to run, and not the one AU forces upon him!

Wow!! I'm shocked! I figured he would try to keep Lupa and Troopa for sure in an attempt to hold onto this recruiting class. According to the AJC, euben Foster told the UGA staff that he would sign with them if they would hire his new "daddy" Troopa Taylor. Even though he has said different, Foster still seems to be "squirrelly" in his commitment, ugly ass tattoo or not.

I wouldn't be so quick to jump on the "clean house" bandwagon.

Jacobs released them, but said they could work through the remainder of their contracts.

Malzahn says he's releasing them, but said his coordinators will hire their own staff. Do you suspect some will interview? I do.

The questions I have are not whom Gus is but can he build a staff that will enable Allban to improve next year. NCAA stuff is still not known. He had a good year at AKS. This means he may have a good grasp of the coaching job. Recruiting, will be his first challenge. I do not agree that he is the best hire for BAMA. If he can clean house and take names then we will see them get better.

What do ya know, Gus has some grapefruits! I know that him cleaning house is not sitting well with the string pullers down there. That was, after all, their hand picked staff. A lot of the fans are glad he let Loeffler and VanGorder go, but at the same time, they are upset about him sending troopa and lupa packing. I guess because of a recruit or two? At any rate, it took Gus two days to do something that cheese whiz couldn't do in four years. He stood up to the fambly. I'll bet pat and bobby are sulking right about now.
