Yeah, I agree with you there. I'm not acting like the world is on fire here, because to be honest, college football doesn't mean as much to me anymore with where it's at. I will always pull for my alma mater and support them. I just want to see adjustments. I keep bringing up money, and that they are ALWAYS asking for more and have their hands out, way more than even my kids. I want something for that.
I expected a tough first year, but expected more the second year. We made the Playoffs, but we just weren't a threat when we easily could have been. I think three-four years should be enough time to get your program together and see where we are. We knew someone coming in after Saban would be nearly impossible. I just hope there are similarities in Saban and Byrne of when to call it quits and move on. Saban didn't have a run of 5 loss seasons like a lot of good coaches when they bailed. He left after losing on the goaline in the Playoffs.
DeBoer needs to know the expectations of the community that pays his salary and benefits of being at one of the best universities in the country. No different than being the CEO of Apple, Amazon or Google, the shareholders want returns. He showed fire at times, but we can all get mad, so can he make the necessary adjustments. News article headlines matter and when we continue to get thrown around as failing with the Portal, especially after seeing the Portal and NIL aide Ohio State, Michigan, and Indiana to Championships, it leaves you scratching your head a hair. As I stated weeks ago, we need to toe a line and be on the forefront of these changes, not reactionary. In college ball, you're dead if you are reacting to the shifts and not the ones causing the shifts. Saban was a master at this.
