šŸˆ Grading Greg Byrne

No, it's the HC, he's on the O side, doesn't use a FB, sends TE into the pattern (which excited us preseason until we couldn't protect), ran toss sweeps with extreme reluctance, like it was a bad thing to have a back more than three yards off the ball.
Here's something that pisses me off, Tim. Everywhere you see "it's year three. Judge him on year three."

What was Shula's year three? Or DuBose? Stallings and Saban? Polor opposites. Perkins and Curry in year three.

It's year four.

Might as well say Year 7. Really need to see two full classes come through to really see the whole picture.

Y'all make this way to hard. It will come down to wins/losses compared to the importance of that sport historically. We know what drives everything at Bama. Byrne would probably survive if the first coach post CNS was not successful but he would be on the clock for the 2nd hire. Lets hope it does not come to that and CKD shows a significant improvement year 2

Now if this is truly a NIL issue not sure what to do other than find a creative way to generate more NIL money somehow.

you're narrowing it down to Football only, and I once again said that wasn't fair to assess his legacy at Alabama.

So..... I don't think it's fair when he has done this:
  • University of Alabama (2017–Present):
    • Football: Kalen DeBoer (2024), hired to succeed Nick Saban.
    • Men's Basketball: Nate Oats (2019), hired from Buffalo.
    • Baseball: Rob Vaughn (2023), hired from Maryland.
    • Gymnastics: Ashley Johnston (2022).
    • Baseball: Brad Bohannon (2017).
Revenues: he implemented "The Crimson Standard", a 10-year $600 million initiative focusing on facility renovations and unfractured at Alabama.
Renovated Mal Moore Atheletic Facility, built Golf facility.

Revenue Generation: Under his leadership, Alabama has consistently broken records for licensing revenue and established a top-tier NIL program.
Let us be reminded by what Greg said about NIL: https://www.wvtm13.com/article/alab...-and-the-future-of-alabama-athletics/67989411

I'm still struggling to understand why we feel the need to judge Bryne based on CKD and football program. This does not make sense.

That...is...soooo....generous. A- Omg.
Did you remember the running stats. 123rd out of 132 ( or something). Minus yards vs uga...blown out in 2 of last 3 games games. (So Oklahoma sucked worse than us)
Made cfp because of being bama....period
Thats not A- ...sorry. ... much futher down the alphabet...much.
That’s fine. If you disagree, we can certainly debate.

I think it was impressive that CKD found a way to beat our three rivals this season. Two of them on the road.

I also think it’s impressive that his team went into Athens and got a win.

Did they stink some too? Of course they did. That’s why it’s an A- and not an A.

But? The goal was for year two to be a playoff team.

He did that. He made the seccg. He won a game in the playoffs too. What the hell else do we want? That’s a pretty dang good season. Obviously, I want championships too, but it’s not realistic typically in year two. NIL changes a ton in terms of building, but we all just figuring that out…….

Year three, to me, continue beating our rivals, get to the seccg and have a chance to win it, win two playoff games. That’s another improvement.

As the football and basketball teams go, the AD goes. If they fail? He fails.

Basketball stinks currently. There’s still plenty of time for that team to figure it out and make a run of some sort.

But, I wouldn’t say basketball is a failure by any means. CNO has taken our basketball team to heights it’s never experienced. I’m afraid others are going to notice soon and pluck him away eventually.

Auburn and LSU sucked this year though. Both were dumpster fires. I think a lot of focus in beating those two is a little much. And then we lost to a team worse than even both of them. Winning is better than losing of course, but I'm not talking trash to their fans when those games were closer than they should have been. I was at the LSU game, it was a boring game.

Wasnt disrespecting ur opinion........
Was just amazed at A-......
Yeah....... Had some high points. .....As you pointed out. ....And some REALLY low ones. Fsu. 2 blowouts. Running game. STs. Coaching blunders.
Season wasn't a failure...... But i expect more than making cfp.
Beating our 3 rivals ( even with all 3 sucking) was really high points. ......
Probably would have got..... mike Shula .....a life time contract.
But ....we good buddy... . and year 3 is going to be interesting

Basketball.....In SEC...... Winning on road is how I judge round ball team.....
so..... this team has real highs n lows.... but has talent..... get hot at right time....????? Meshing
I suspect programs in need have seen CNO.

I agree, I was just simply stating that beating those three is an accomplishment in itself. Even if they sucked.

Anyway, I don’t understand the doom and gloom look by some…..not you. Just in general. CKD is following up arguably the best ever CFB coach. I think he’s handling it well so far.

Need more improvement, but I feel like the boats going in the right direction.

For sure better than Perkins did following BEAR.

Yeah, I agree with you there. I'm not acting like the world is on fire here, because to be honest, college football doesn't mean as much to me anymore with where it's at. I will always pull for my alma mater and support them. I just want to see adjustments. I keep bringing up money, and that they are ALWAYS asking for more and have their hands out, way more than even my kids. I want something for that.

I expected a tough first year, but expected more the second year. We made the Playoffs, but we just weren't a threat when we easily could have been. I think three-four years should be enough time to get your program together and see where we are. We knew someone coming in after Saban would be nearly impossible. I just hope there are similarities in Saban and Byrne of when to call it quits and move on. Saban didn't have a run of 5 loss seasons like a lot of good coaches when they bailed. He left after losing on the goaline in the Playoffs.

DeBoer needs to know the expectations of the community that pays his salary and benefits of being at one of the best universities in the country. No different than being the CEO of Apple, Amazon or Google, the shareholders want returns. He showed fire at times, but we can all get mad, so can he make the necessary adjustments. News article headlines matter and when we continue to get thrown around as failing with the Portal, especially after seeing the Portal and NIL aide Ohio State, Michigan, and Indiana to Championships, it leaves you scratching your head a hair. As I stated weeks ago, we need to toe a line and be on the forefront of these changes, not reactionary. In college ball, you're dead if you are reacting to the shifts and not the ones causing the shifts. Saban was a master at this.

Dont forget. That 10 million/year he gets. Should have been some refunds last 2 years

Byrne needs to be evaluated on one thing: the financial stability of the athletic department. The contributing elements to this include: coaching selection, scheduling, sponsorships, facilities (existing and future) and probably about a half dozen more categories. This covers each sport.

How's he doing? IMO he's doing well. The majority of sports are doing well (W-L, coach selection, scheduling, facilities, revenue generation). We have some of the best facilities in the country (BDS, Coleman, Sewell-Thomas, Mal Moore). Granted all the teams haven't won NCs but they don't dwell at the bottom of the conference.

Grubb is the who came up with that buillshit play.
And Deboar....hense Bama football 2025....
No. Grubb. I don't understand y'all. Y'all are bad wings or something?

The HC is an offensive guy. Without Milroe, there was only a tiny difference in our rushing from '24 to '25. With Milroe's 56 yards a game (which would again have led the team this year), Bama was still ranked 47th in rushing in 2024. Do you think Bama had great defenses because of Steele (twice), Lupoi, Smart, Pruitt and Golding, or because Saban always had his hand in it?

If Milroe could've read and hit his short/intermediates, '24 would've looked more like '25, rushing wise, but we had generational speed at QB - thank goodness for the bailouts. Do you think Milroe would've regressed if Grubb had been there his last year?
