let's say it's 2025

Nick Saban has announced his retirement at the end of the season.

both Jimbo Fisher and Dabo Swinney are still at their respective schools as they are now. Coach Saban has won 2 or 3 more national championships and 4 or 5 more conference championships.

both Jimbo Fisher and Dabo Swinney have done the same in their conference. AND, both are at the end of their respective contracts.

BAMA knows Coach Saban is retiring. They also know the other 2 coaches are at the end of their contracts. who, in this scenario, do you think they go after?

who would you want, between those 2, to be the next head coach at ALABAMA?

both coaches are obviously good at their job. one of them played at BAMA on a national championship-winning team, the other was an assistant under Saban and has a coaching style sort of similar to Saban's. both have been very good at their current jobs. and both are being considered as the next head coach at BAMA.

IMO, since you asked, I DO NOT see either one coming to Bama if they have continued success at the national or conference level. Just like Coach Bryant, I would not want to be the person that follows Coach Saban.

Both these guys are good football coaches and it will be fun watching them moving forward. But if you give them almost 10 more years at their respective schools, why would they leave? The bigger question for me is can Jimbo do it again without a Winston and can Dabo do it without a Watson leading the way? Cause I know Coach Saban can.

I'll play along.

Jimbo is about to be 52 and Dabo is about to turn 48.

If the scenario plays out the way you have it laid out.......I think age is a limiting factor for Jimbo. I just don't think they hire someone in their 60's. While 70 is not as old as it used to be, how many coaches were successful, in their 70's? Plus too many factors come into play via stress of the job, health concerns from age, etc. I think you have to look at that as maybe a 5 year hire. He could go a lot longer, or not even finish his contract, too iffy.

Dabo would be the logical choice here, but you are talking 8 years down the road. He has been on staff at Clemson since 2003. That is 22 years in one location. His sons are 17, 15, and 12. His oldest enrolled at Clemson this past summer. All his kids have ever known is Clemson, South Carolina. By the time all this plays out, Dabo will be a grandpa. His family is pretty much engrained in the area.

I think Dabo would come to Bama, but it'll have to take place in the next 4-5 years, otherwise I don't think it happens.

Coming off his seventh consecutive Sunbelt Championship and the only two-time non-Power 5 playoff participant in the round of 8, Joey Jones is selected to follow Saban.

Hey, if we're creating fictional scenarios...

between those two, @sk33tr ?? Geez...Dabo, I suppose. Maybe he'd be a Shula 2.0 (success-wise), but I'd rather see Joey Jones take the helm. Hell, if he works out well, Daboll...Maybe Pruitt or Lupoi. All those, to me, are more palatable than Fisher, who will have us on probation in three years, or Dabo, who unlike CNS, cannot keep his emotions in check while in front of a mike.

No way Dabo coaches at Alabama. He's is too big of a goober to hold the position. Sure, he's done a good job of selling Clemson and bringing in some great recruits, but he has shown something a lot of other coaches have shown, but can he sustain it? Only time will tell. His little quips and historic facts during every single interview are just goofy and something that means nothing at a school like Alabama. The brass and boosters don't want that crap, they want a guy that goes about his business in a way like Saban, Stallings, and Bear. No non-sense and being methodical, not tooting your horn every day and building a playground atmosphere on campus. That's just my opinion though. I think Jimbo is way more groomed to be at Alabama than Dabo if I had to choose from the two.

If Dabo and Jimbo continue to win (which they both won't since they have to play each other, but I'll play along), they will get increases in their compensation (Dabo just got a raise to be the second highest paid coach in college). If a coach is winning, the trend is to lock them up with extensions so their contract won't expire. While I'm sure there would be a way, I don't think Alabama wants to get into a bidding war. My bet is that Alabama would pursue other coaches that have won and are on the rise.

Well...if its the same mentality that makes decisions after BEAR left....
We are in trouble....Ot takes goobers to do the right thing.....thats not the strong part of the Bama organization......
.....
But......2025.....ummmm.....i may have other things to worry about....
