🏈 Fall Scrimmage #2: Reports/Observations

A few things: who is ryan fowler? And who the hell is shank? I have seen that mentioned and i never know who it is. Why is he called that?

Shank is Alphonse Taylor... Who will likely be our starting Right Guard. His nickname since high school I believe

Reading between the lines, I think he was one of the few guys who showed up out of shape. Saban mentioned 2 guys who didn't take care of their weight properly. I don't want to take away from Bozeman because he's been good since showing up on campus... But I think Taylor is a little bigger/stronger/faster if he has his ish together. I feel comfortable with either though... RTR

How has the offensive line looked? I wouldn't expect any consistency going up against the front 7, but do they play more physical and have good chemistry? All I've heard is that the offensive line has been great compared to the past 2 years.

I really hope Morris wins the job. Barnett is the most talented of the bunch and has the highest ceiling, but he is just not ready from a stature and maturity standpoint... YET.

Morris proved he could along the ball better than average today, with that long TD strike. All indications are he's the safest bet by being the most consistent and intelligent one under center. He plays for two years while not making boneheaded mistakes, and hands the reigns to Barnett.

That's how I see this playing out. Hopefully, anyway.

I appreciate your info boz. Didnt mean to sound like a knock. What im hearing from you if im not wrong is its morris bateman and Coker. Then fowler is saying something slightly different. Its likely im reading ir wrong. All the same thank you for your input and info. It keeps me on the board a lot. Lol

The football gods were cruel when they gave Jacob Coker a cannon for an arm and a pebble for a brain. Feel bad for the guy - he has all the physical abilities to get down field but good lord I do not trust him in live action with a game on the line.

(Also, this is my first post here so hello all)

Scrimmage over. Waiting on Saban to speak. A few notes...will give more later-
QB- Bateman was the best today and it wasn't close. Very decisive in the pocket. Zero bad decisions. Had a couple of 15 yard runs in 2 minute to move the chains. Only bad throw of the day was an overthrow- missed deionte Thompson down the sideline. Keep in mind he started the scrimmage running the second o against the 1s on d and moved right down field into scoring range before drive stalled
Morris- very limited skill set. Several batted balls. Only good throw of the day was a 95 yd tid to foster- thrown 30 yes or so and foster made the rest of the play
Coker- all I can do is shake my head. It's time to close the book on this project. Everything is late and inaccurate. In my opinion neither he nor Morris can be successful in this league.
Cornwell- out of this race. Poor body language from the start. Different kid than I saw in spring.
Barnett- the future without question but simply needs more time/reps to develop. If things fall apart early, could conceivably see redshirt taken off.
In the secondary- the field corner is Cyrus and the boundary corner is marlon- in all sets. Safety geno and Eddie. Minkah is nickel and Ronnie Harrison is dime. Only news tony brown made is a jersey change to #7. Buried in depth chart for now. Will post a few more observations later

Thanks for ALL of the comments and commentary from the Stadium. I like so many others who have no sources or connections for ever attending these opportunities, really, really appreciate the info. (in my 67 years I can't remember ever being so excited about a season, but then again, I can't remember much of anything!!!)

Wow. Where the hell did Bateman come from? He is the surprise today. I agree, time to close the book on this Coker experiment. It's not gonna work. I also think Morris takes the field against Wiskey. SLO, Morris the next two years? Ha! We'll be doing good to keep Barnett off the field this year. It's his job the next two or three years depending on how long he stays.

Boz, Atticus, give me your take on the WR breakdown. I'd also like your insight on the LB packages, particularly, who came in at rabbit? I want Evans to get PT. I think he's a stud.

At this point, I believe the winner will be the one that is most respected by the team. From what I have read, that will be Morris. He has been with the team longer than anyone and is a worker. Same thing pushed BS over the hump last year. When it is said and done, I would not be surprised to learn that some of the upperclassmen were consulted or otherwise weighed in.
