So would you rather lose two games with the "game manager" Morris with no chance to win the Championship or lose three with Coker and a real chance to win the Championship?

All of you will see what me and the people who went to the scrimmages are talking about in 9 days and especially when we play Ole Miss. I'll leave it at that. He has all the looks, great arm, can run alittle, but wind up and decision making is slow. This won't matter against Wisconsin, MTSU, etc but against Ole Miss and LSU it will be a totally different ball game. And those hard decisions and quick throws will be the ball game. Unless we run all over everyone and have the 2012 OL we will need the above. Mark that down.

Missed the last couple of pages and skimming through saw where we are back to Coker?

Maybe by September we will be back to Morris, or Cornwell, or a walk-on.....

Boz...
Any chance Saban is just buying time through the early part of the schedule to get BB ready for the meat of the schedule? This would give OM, Ga, ect ZERO film to prepare for...

This would make some sense given the recent comments about BB not red shirting this year. Just a hair-brained thought.

It would also throw Barnett into his first live-game action against two of the best defenses we'll face all year. Not a good move, in my opinion.

Hey Boz... no flame and I don't care who wins the QB race but you seem very anti-Coker for some reason. I saw where everyone was getting on some guy for being all about Coker, even last year but this email actually makes it sound like you have something against him.

I just want someone who give us the best chance to win. I could care less who it is going to be. You have some great insight into the program but Saban and Kiffin have better in sight, something to loose and much more experience. It's not like they are giving it to Coker because he is white!

Roll tide brother :hurray:

I guess you missed the post where I said I support Coker 100% but I have seen him.play recently and he isn't the best. But hey once again as I said before I support whoever starts.

Herbstreit Final Four picks:
Ohio St- his pick to win title
Arizona St
Oklahoma
LSU

Had picked Bama to win SEC as of 2 weeks ago. Has now changed his pick after attending first Bama scrimmage.

Did he see LSU scrimmage? They're a mess at QB again, and don't have the defense Alabama does. They'll probably get blown out in week 3 by Auburn again and become an afterthought.

This sounds about right. There are 7-8 teams on the schedule that we are beating with a walk on QB who can walk and chew gum... Wisconsin may be one of them this year with the way we match up. But when the S hits the fan, the QB will have to make some tough decisions quickly... So I see your point.

I did say the same exact stuff about Blake last year though. But Blake had some special intangibles that flat out could not be measured. Maybe Coker has something that we can't see... But if I was a betting man, I would bet that another QB will be thrown into a big situation this year.

Just an observation from what you had typed.. it just came of that way some. I have know doubt you are all Bama and will support whoever gets under center and so will I.

I love me some Jay Barker, he is a business friend of mine and a great guy but what did he do in 92 to win a game? He threw 7 count them 7 passes in the championship game and I can't remember a game that year where he threw more than 25 passes... turned out pretty well for us that year. Not saying we will win a championship.. actually I think our schedule is too brutal this year even if we had Tom Brady to go undefeated.

I would actually say this to Jay because I think he was a huge part of our success but we didn't win any games because of him but there were a couple we didn't lose because of him. I keep hearing that the QB is going to have to win us a game and how the game has changed but it is all cyclical and I think the defense could catch up this year. Plus, I think that there is something to this HUNH smash mouth style that Boz had said. Coach Saban goes even more secretive than normal, institutes the sideline flashcards like spread teams, doesn't have a dominant QB and has let a couple little comments slip about no huddle and playing fast.. I think he is up to something.

This type of style would not require a stud QB to win a game we can win with and athletic QB.. "Jay Barker..ish"

That is where we disagree... A few will find ways to score points. Back in those days DB's were allowed to play the game with aggression... Now they can't breathe on a guy without the flag coming out.

I think our D will be awesome this year. But we will need points, in a hurry, numerous times this season. QB play will become paramount.

Not saying points won't be important but I am saying a star QB won't be as important with the style I think we are going to run. I think we will run a hurry up, no huddle, smash mouth, wear your ass out offense with a sufficating defense and a stud punter. I think with our current roster it makes the most sense and would give us a chance to win every game if we don't turn it over and stay healthy.

Here's another wrinkle. What if, because he ran a variation of a read-option in high school in the Wing T, that Jake might just be our best option for that?

He's athletic enough, and big enough to be pretty durable. What if he only HAS TO throw the ball about 15-20 times a game? Because of his size and durability, maybe he does give us the best chance to score points while tayloring the offense to his strengths. Kiffin said he would tweak the O to feature the strengths of his athletes.

What if this is what he was talking about?

The veiled comments about HUSM (hurry up, smash mouth) from the staff could be revealing these possibilities.

Suttles just posted 2 instagram videos of Coker at practice today. Videos are from a warm-up period. I realize it is just warm-ups, but take a quick peek at the location of both of the throws and you will see the glaring problem that is mentioned ad nauseum with Jake… and this is just pitch and catch, with no DB's/pass rush/etc.
I'm with Boz. I will be wholeheartedly behind whichever guy is under center. I have now seen Jake in 3 live scrimmages with extended action along with what mop up duty he had last year. The concerns remain the same. I hope I am proven wrong if he is the starter, and he's simply a 'gamer'. Unfortunately I have yet to see it.
I tried to link the videos from suttles twitter- cant make it happen. Sorry.
