🏈 Fall Camp Wk 3: Reports and Observations.

When you think about the young contributors to this team; Minkah, Hump, Harrison, Ridley, Charlot and Harris, this could be a very special year with a little solid QB play. They only add to an already very talented team.

My only concerns are 1) securing the football and 2) minimizing blown assignments on D. #2 cost us last year, but the reports out of camp seem to indicate that it may not an issue this year. On the flip side, dropped passes, interceptions and fumbles seem to be a problem in fall camp. If they can fix those issues, which are mostly focus related, I really like our chances, even in the face of the toughest schedule in the country.

His high reward ratio, despite risks, makes him the QB with the highest ceiling on our roster. He can Chuck the ball at least 20 yards farther than any QB on our roster, with ease. The big play capability is there.
It only takes one or two to put a secondary back on their heels. One, if you have a legit threat ... even if that legit threat misses four of five.

We know Drake can be isolated and can be that playmaker. He alone, could break up a secondary (back seven) if he makes that one big play per game. I'll have, but can live with, a two INT average per game IF the secondary is "swiss cheese" fearing that big play from a guy like Drake.

Gotta have the pass blocking for those long plays to develop. We didn't have it last year.
Yes, and no.

When you have a QB with a strong enough arm that can stand up in the gun and sling it a mile with about 4 secs of hangtime, you give him 1 read, take one sec after the snap, maybe look off a safety, and hurl it down field for the receiver to run under it. No real need for pass pro in that instance. A timed deep ball.

I get where you're coming from, but we're talking about managing risks with selective play calling that highlights his strengths and gives him and the O the best chance for success.

I agree that's what they have to do but I hate that the team is in the position of not having a quarterback they can completely trust to make the right decision. It really hurts the team's overall success and the turnovers and conservative play calling will destroy the team's confidence. I remember seeing Coker throw after this past off season and I couldn't believe that he had not improved his release time and decision making. I hope the coaches see something I don't because I could never be comfortable sending him out there with his slow release time.
