🏈 Fall Camp reports/articles/links

— Cornerback Kendall Sheffield wasn't at practice.

— Defensive lineman Dalvin Tomlinson, who suffered a twisted ankle during the Tide's scrimmage on Saturday, wasn't participating in practice. He was working on a stationary bike on the sideline.

— Jamey Mosley was fourth in outside linebacker drills. Mosley was put on scholarship Monday night. He had previously been a walk-on since joining Alabama's program in 2014. The order during outside linebacker drills: Ryan Anderson, Tim Williams, Christian Miller, Mosley, Anfernee Jennings, Mekhi Brown, Terrell Hall and then walk-on Derrick Garnett.

— Inside linebacker Rashaan Evans, who suffered a minor injury Saturday, was participating in practice. So was running back Bo Scarbrough, who Saban said got "dinged" during the scrimmage Saturday.

— The first-team offensive line was again Cam Robinson at left tackle, Lester Cotton at left guard, Ross Pierschbacher at center, Bradley Bozeman at right guard and Jonah Williams at right tackle. Alphonse Taylor was with the second-team at right guard.

— Tony Brown was again at cornerback after spending the first week and a half of camp mostly at safety.

— The first-team nickel defense: Reuben Foster and Shaun Dion Hamilton were at linebacker. Ryan Anderson was rushing. Marlon Humphrey and Anthony Averett were at cornerback. Minkah Fitzpatrick was at nickel back. The safeties were Eddie Jackson and Ronnie Harrison.

— The second-team cornerbacks in nickel were Brown and Jared Mayden. Shyheim Carter was at nickel back.

Alabama practice report: Notes from Tuesday's practice

Suttles: Wednesday Practice notes:
The first day of practice saw an expanded roster (per NCAA rules). This is what I saw during the media viewing period.

The Dime defense worked with Marlon Humphrey and Anthony Averett at corner. Minkah Fitzpatrick was at the Star, Ronnie Harrison was at Money with Eddie Jackson and Hootie Jones at safety. My feeling is that they're trying to get one of the young guys (Trevon Diggs or Shyheim Carter) ready for a role in the Dime. It's something I'll watch going forward. Reuben Foster was the middle linebacker in Dime.

The running backs ran in the normal order of Bo Scarbrough, Damien Harris, B.J. Emmons and Joshua Jacobs.

Keith Holcombe was not with the middle linebackers. He's been absent or limited during several practices thus far. The middle linebackers worked in the following order: Reuben Foster, Shaun Dion Hamilton, Rashaan Evans, Joshua McMillon, Ben Davis and Mack Wilson.

Alabama practice report: Notes from Wednesday's practice

Practice report: Updates on Tide LBs, dime drills

Alabama continued its practice schedule Thursday afternoon with its 17th fall practice and second since school started back. The Crimson Tide practiced indoors and in full pads on a mostly-sunny, 91-degree afternoon.

Here are several tidbits from the media viewing portion of Alabama's Thursday practice session in Tuscaloosa:

- Alabama appeared to try something new during its dime drill today with linebacker Rashaan Evans seeing some reps at Money. He shadowed Ronnie Harrison, who played the position a season ago, with the first group.

- The rest of the first-team dime package appeared to be made up of Marlon Humphrey and Anthony Averett at corner, Eddie Jackson and Laurence Jones at safety, Minkah Fitzpatrick at Star and Reuben Foster at Mack.

- The second dime group was comprised of Jared Mayden (with Aaron Robinson shadowing) and Tony Brown at corner, Deionte Thompson and Trevon Diggs at safety, Shyheim Carter at Star, a combination of Jones, Keaton Anderson and Lyndell Wilson, with the younger players shadowing the older Jones, at Money and Shaun Hamilton at Mack.

- There was no sign of inside linebacker Keith Holcombe again in the two media viewing periods.

- Players wearing black, no-contact jerseys were: Richie Petitbon (knee), Ronnie Clark (Achilles) and Nigel Knott (knee). Dalvin Tomlinson (ankle) and Derrick Gore (knee) also wore black, but they were in full pads.

- The quarterback line remained unchanged, but newly-added walk-on Josh Palet served as the scout-team quarterback while the others threw with the wide receivers and tight ends. As if to make the competition even closer, the trio of Cooper Bateman, Blake Barnett and Jalen Hurts each made some nice throws and some not-so-nice throws in the viewing periods.

*** What’s next: Alabama will be back on the practice field Friday at 3:30 p.m. CT for its final tuneup before its second fall scrimmage at Bryant-Denny Stadium (Saturday at 1 p.m. CT).

Suttles: Thursday Practice notes,
The team worked inside the Hank Crisp Indoor Facility on Thursday afternoon. Here is what I noticed during the media viewing period.

I continue to be impressed with the freshmen running backs, B.J. Emmons and Joshua Jacobs. In fact, nothing I've seen or heard makes me want to back off the story I wrote last week that Emmons could be Alabama's next great running back. A lot will go into determining that, but the kid continues to get rave reviews from those I talk to.

Lester Cotton was back at left guard during the viewing period after Dallas Warmack spent some time there yesterday.

The only thing of note that really stood out to me today occurred during the dime drills when linebacker Rashaan Evans shadowed Ronnie Harrison, who's been working at the Money position in Dime. The rest of the dime defense looked the same with Marlon Humphrey and Anthony Averett at corner, Eddie Jackson and Hootie Jones at safety, Minkah Fitzpatrick at Star and Reuben Foster at inside linebacker.

Evans has such speed that if they develop his coverage skills he could be one of those hybrid, missing-link types that helps our D adapt to a multiple offense. I remember how Barron was so strong on run support for us, and how he's now a LB in the league. Evans could move in the opposite way, or just be that hybrid LB with good cover skills but big enough to give strong run support and be able to cover the big TE.

RTR,

Tim

— The running back order during drills was Bo Scarbrough, Damien Harris, Derrick Gore, Ronnie Clark, B.J. Emmons and then Josh Jacobs. Gore and Clark are both working back from injuries. Both were in black non-contact jerseys.

— Defensive lineman Dalvin Tomlinson (ankle) wasn't practicing. He was working on a stationary bike on the sideline, like he has all week during the media viewing period.

— Inside linebacker Keith Holcombe wasn't present during the portion of practice open to the media.

— Bradley Bozeman continues to work with the first-team offensive line at right guard.

Alabama practice report: Notes from Friday's practice

2 things stand out - First... GREAT to read that Ronnie Clark is back taking some reps. Kid has had terrible luck. Just too bad he never stuck at Safety. Second... What is the word on Holcombe?? He's missing enough practice to know there must be something going on. He's got a ton of potential wherever they stick him. Anyone have any info?

Curious about this as well. I've noticed that most of the reports have listed him missing during media viewing periods, which is usually the beginning of practice, but then later see updates that he was back after the viewing period. I wonder if he's getting his ass smoked to start practice every day due to some infraction and they're doing it away from the cameras? Just a wild guess.

Here's the scrimmage report from Boz over on the SEC Rant:

"Summary:

Qbs order IMO

Hurts
Bateman
Barnett

I think hurts is better because A his arm is better and B he is a great scrambler.

Bateman did well but threw some really bad passes

Barnett as you read in the thread just stunk tons of turnovers

Defense is on another planet, RBs really couldn't do anything, prevatt they blocked quite well.

Secondary is awesome

OL did well considering just hard to push on those guys

Evans was next to Rueben in nickel so I think he may have overcome Hamilton

We have some good WR but tons of dropped passes

That's the gist, hard to say what they will do between Bateman and hurts. Waiting on saban to come address my group."
