Practice Report, August 27, Ben Jones:

Lots to get to today. Alabama worked inside this afternoon despite good conditions in Tuscaloosa, probably a choice to play on the artificial turf to get ready for AT&T Stadium.

  • The quarterbacks were in the same order. Cooper Bateman was handing off to Bo Scarbrough in a drill, with Blake Barnett handing off to Damien Harris. The QBs were split up during this drill as they often are, with Bateman/Barnett on one side and Cornwell/Hurts on the other.

  • Bradley Bozeman was working at center today. The first team offensive line, left to right, was Cam Robinson, Lester Cotton, Bradley Bozeman, Ross Pierschbacher, and Jonah Williams.

  • Cecil noted that B.J. Emmons was running behind the first team offensive line at one point. That's a good indicator that he'll factor into this game.

  • Didn't get a look at the full second team line, but the right side was JC Hassenauer at C, Brandon Kennedy at RG and Korren Kirven at RT.

  • When the defense was in its nickel package, it was Anthony Averett at CB and Minkah Fitzpatrick in the slot. If I had to guess, I'd say that's the lineup they'll go with against USC. They're into gameplanning now, so it wouldn't make sense for them to rep a lineup they didn't intend to use unless they were just doing it for subterfuge.

  • Yesterday I mentioned players wearing yellow pennies with Nos. 7 & 9 on them to represent Steven Mitchell Jr. and Juju Smith-Schuster, respectively. Today there was one of them in a No. 2 jersey: Adoree Jackson.

  • Shyheim Carter was in the slot in dime packages again. I'd expect him to play in some situations.

  • It's really a pleasure to watch Calvin Ridley in practice. One thing I noticed today was just how quick his hands are. That's normally something you hear about an offensive or defensive lineman, but it jumped out at me today. A ball would be headed for him and he'd have his arms at his side mid-stride, then all of a sudden he'd catch the ball right in front of his face. It's really something.
