🏈 Do you think the refs helped us win?

I finally spoke to a VT fan today at work to ask him what he thought. His response was interesting. He says that Saban wanted an SEC officiating crew and that was why we won. Apparently the refs missed a lot of calls against us that would have helped them win. I did not see that, but how else do you explain our domination in the fourth quarter?:lance:

go back and count the holds on #34's run into the end zone in the 4th quarter. then tell the VT fan to stop crying. His team has no offense and a QB that can't see that field and is skiddish. Their O-line couldn't block a phone call. their defense was fast for about 25 minutes.

they got beat like the emasculated turkeys they are.

There are always going to be missed calls and it seems like the nature of the beast if you will that the losing team is the one to always point it out. You would have never heard that from him if VT had won. Plus is there anything he can point to and show that Saban wanted SEC refs? Does a coach even have input into who the officiating crew is?

Sounds more like a fan who had very high expectations for his team this year and they didn't produce on the big stage so now he is reaching for straws to validate his original opinion as opposed to just seeing that the better team won that night.

Not trying to take anything away from VT, but they should be excited that the game was as close as it was. We were killing ourselves there for a while with the penalties.

Maybe I am just seeing the world through crimson glasses. :lance:

Their AD is the one that started this mess. Last Sunday (?) he said they wouldn't play any more neutral site games unless is was a neutral crew.

FWIW, Bama - 10 penalties, 83 yards
VT - 6 p for 45 yards.

Yeah. SEC crews are bad.

I wish we had an ACC crew last Saturday...the kick return for TD would have been called back for holding, as would the long TD run they had. Their OL were holding the entire game.

Alabama fans are used to being screwed by those refs who are accused of giving us an advantage.

But i think Saban wanted SEC refs because we had ACC refs last year.

Anywho, the better team definatly won. Thats more factual than anything, the guys were bigger, stronger, faster, and meaner last weekend.

No whining, itll make me lose my respect for VT.

Its so easy to say "that hold or PI shouldve/shouldve not been called" on a play that doesnt go the persons way. Because alot of those penalties come down to the individuals perception on what was happening,

There is probably some kind of highlight reel of SEC refs missing calls, I know there is one of a ref tackling a QB in space.

The ACC is really frustrated right now. They have not looked good and VT was their bell cow this year. The UM/Fla St and Clemson/GT games were good, but were the teams great or just average teams closely matched? I think anyone who watched the game knows who fielded the best team.

The penalty that stuck out in my mind was the pass interference they called on Bama on a 3rd down incompletion which led to the TD after the McClain indecent.

If anything, the penalties on us made the game appear closer than it was.

I think a higher ranked, stronger, more talented, deeper, and better coached team won a game that most people thought that they would win. And, I don't think the ticket takers, hotdog venders, stadium announcer, referees, or park attendance had any impact on the outcome.
