šŸˆ Disappointed in Dooley's actions today

Not you Duder because you don't have the history we Bama fans do with UT...

I do have to ask...

How many of you actually found yourself rooting for UT this weekend? I didn't get that far...but, it's the first time in years I wasn't specifically rooting against them.

Is it because of my respect for Dooley? Is it more a dislike developed over the last few years for Les?

Me! I like Dooley.

it couldn't have been a more perfect outcome. Tenn won, then seconds later lost and Les Miles looks like a complete idiot winning - then his presser shows what a nut he is - here's to hoping LSU is stuck with Les Miles another few years :)

I give him a pass on this one. It was an emotional moment and hey, it happens. Not to disagree with Reger but I live in Middle Tn as well and have not heard any complaints about Dooley from those covered in Orange.

RTR

its the only time i can think of where i felt bad for Tenn. losing.

i had to go see a therapist to help me understand the feelings...lol

i'd agree with terry, like dooley and want him to do well and really hate the village idiot.

Whats the over/under Ga. goes after Dooley in the near future?

Great question.

I've seen remarks about UGA going after Kirby Smart. But, not a lot of coverage on the relationship Smart has with Richt and Bobo and the way their fan base is treating them now. It's a close-knitted community...

Right there with you.

The better question, whats the over/under for Bama in terms of coaching turnover after the season.

Good question. In my opinion we'll be lucky to hold on to Smart for another year. Depends on what jobs open up and what job he'd be willing to take. I also think McElwain will find something soon, but I'm not as sold on it happening within the year like I am Smart.

I'll truly be surprised if they actually get rid of Richt. All it would take to make the leg humper nation happy is a few wins over some rival teams and the fans would hush up and be complacent for yet another season. I live here and here their talk. Yeah, they're all pissed at Mark Richt right now, but they seem scared at the thought of actually turning him loose and not knowing who to hire. Which leads me to believe with a few wins over say, Tennessee, Auburn and if the stars were to align right for UGA, Florida. Richt would stay at UGA and nothing more would be said...till the implosion started next season! :dazed:

I think Smart is the most likely candidate to leave but I think he's in a position where he feels comfortable hanging around for the RIGHT head coaching opportunity. As it stands there would be no reason for him to leave and go to the one of the "destination schools" (OU, USC, Texas, etc.) because Bama will seemingly be in contention for a while. No reason to leave and go elsewhere for the same exact thing you have now.

I know McElwain was a hot name for a while but I just don't see him being a big threat to leave. I think he may not get the publicity because of the style of offense and the type of players he has in there. I'm not saying he isn't a good coordinator--God knows the wrong coach can mess up with even the best players. I just don't see there being a huge demand for a guy that calls a ball control, bruising type of game. Bama doesn't air it out because they don't need to. I'm sure he could call a different game if in the right situation but his resume will ultimately be formed based on the product that goes on the field. Just my two cents.

And Terry, I have a ton of respect for Dooley. Also, you're right--I don't have the same hatred for UT that you guys do. It actually shocks me that so many here said they didn't fault him; it shocks me because he's the UT coach and you guys tried to find good in him, ha. I think he is generally a good man and will be a good coach.

And to those saying "give him a pass", I can understand the emotional side of things and the DESIRE to throw your headset down and run off the field but I don't think it was the right decision. Your football program is in shambles. The psyche of your players is very fragile right now after the debacle that has been UT football (firing Fulmer, hiring Kiffin, watching him dismantle the program and leave) over the last few years. I think this was an opportunity for Dooley to lead by example and show his players that even in the face of a horribly emotional, heartbreaking loss that you should still carry yourself like a man and hold your head high. This could've been a teaching moment for his team and a way to bring dignity to a program that desperately needs it. Instead he basically throws a tantrum by tossing his headset and running off the field. It pissed me off when LeBron James did it in the NBA playoffs two years ago, it pissed me off when Belichick did it after the Giants beat 'em in the Super Bowl and it pissed me off when Dooley did it. Take some pride in what you do and who you are as a person and as a competitor and shake hands at the end of the game. It is just the right thing to do, in my opinion.

Duder, your point is well taken. If the end of the game scenario had been against Florida, for example (though I can't think of any other program at the college level besides LSU who could have produced that kind of end game chaos) I would have been critical of Dooley's behavior. Since it was against Les the idiot I gave Dooley a pass and should not have.

Couple of thoughts...

We don't know what the after game speech in the locker room was like. I suspect, knowing his roots, he handled that "fragile ego" very well.

I do wonder, considering Dooley's lineage—both parents and coaching—if my respect for him comes from the fact he was integral in Saban's role at LSU or is it because of his mother and father.

Here's the thing Howard...that game ended in chaos.

I was going to give Dooley a pass until I watched the "Coach Dooley Show" yesterday on CSS and he was still whining and saying he was going to be sending several issues to the SEC office to be reviewed. Just let it go already. Complaining about officials never results in anything but making the complainer look bad.

Obviously I can't speak for you but my respect for him certainly comes from his father and the fact that he worked hard at Louisiana Tech. The fact that he spent so much time under Saban also gives me a certain impression of him as a coach. Saban is a coach that hold himself and those around him to a very high standard. He spent time as RB coach and Recruiting Coordinator under Saban at LSU--you cannot deny he must have been very successful in both positions based on the results and the fact that Saban also took him when he jumped ship to the Dolphins. If that were Saban on the sideline in Dooley's position sure he yells, curses, throws the headset down or whatever after the penalty, before the actual final play, but would then compose himself, jog out to midfield shake hands and go blow a gasket in the lockerroom. Maybe it seems more shocking to me because I know where he comes from professionally and the type of Coach his father was. Anyway, my point was I think to a certain extend most of us, certainly I'm in this boat, heard the name "Dooley" and immediately thought he would be a good person.

In the long run, I still think UT has a good coach in the making. This may be nothing more than a coach in his first big-time role going through a very public maturation process.
