🏈 Depth Chart Released! Ohhhh snap! It's gameweek, gents!

Only surprise to me was that Shy Carter is the backup at a corner and Star... Thought Mayden may have been the #2 corner. Read a lot of good things about him this Summer

Also susprised that JK would be the holder. How's he going to hold AND kick FG's?!:D

PS - Good looking out Birdman. Much easier to read that list

Why would he? We've never had a starting QB hold under Saban, for sure. I can't remember the last starting QB we've had that also held, EVER.
That's wild af fam

Sarge, I would love to see Jalen take every meaningful snap this year but I can't disagree more on Tua. I'd be more surprised if he doesn't play Saturday than if he does.

I don't think McCarron was shown as 2nd string on the depth chart the year he redshirted. Tua is the only other guy on the chart. I think he'll play some this year and use a year of eligibility. Got to make room for his brother...

I'm glad you brought that up.

Star Jackson was the backup that year. It came out some time after the NCG that CNS was ready to play AJ if Greg couldn't go. But he trusted his defense enough to let Greg manage the game with broken ribs to save a year of AJ's eligibility.

The only difference between then and this year is that we have no serviceable backup. Again, so we HAD TO make Tua QB2.

Hide and watch tho. Jalen will either exclusively handoff in garbage time, or somebody like Ridley will handle garbage snaps. Somebody that played QB in HS and won't fuck up a handoff.

The tea leaves indicator is who is holding. I dont buy for one penny that Tua is good enough to be QB2 but not good enough to hold place for kicks. I'm sure he held in HS.

The plan is to shirt him if Jalen stays healthy. Why would we NOT? He'll only have one year of eligibility remaining... 2, best case (if Jalen gets a high draft grade in Spring of 19). Something tells me that knowing his father's mental makeup, Jalen will stay for his 4th year.

I think Saban uses the best holder as a holder. PK, P, QB, doesn't matter.

I have no inside knowledge, and we've lost both QBs we've played and redshirted to transfer, but in this case I just get the sense that Saban is intent on playing him. Perhaps it's because we know Hurts will run the ball a good bit, increasing the likelihood of injury. Perhaps because he believes Tua needs real time experience to be a capable backup, and Saban doesn't want him thrown into a potential backup situation, possibly in a key SEC game, without more experience. We'll find out, but I hope it's not because of an injury.

RTR,

Tim

Shit was giving me a headache trying to read that mildly cock-eyed sheet of paper. Have no idea why those weirdos cant just retype it after they get it. Took me literally 2 minutes.

If push came to shove and he really didn't want to burn Tua or Mac's redshirt then I would imagine that Montana Murphy or Austin Johnson would just take the snaps in garbage time. When there's like 4 walk-on QBs on campus, no reason to have a receiver taking snaps. I have no doubt in my mind that Tua is getting snaps this year, though.

Tua is playing this year for multiple reasons...

1. Our starting QB ran the ball like 10 times a game last year. The chances of him not getting hurt this year at least minimally is slim to none

2. Saban prepares for EVERYTHING (I know I know... Except the pick play). Really think he's not going to get his backup as ready as possible when he knows his starter's best weapon is his feet? (Well, maybe his brain... but neither here nor there)

3. A few snaps will keep Tua engaged. QB is unlike any other position where "burning the red shirt" is a negative... When a freshman QB gets to play a few snaps or series, his boner can be seen for miles. Will keep him and the family happy, not to mention he NEEDS to get under center in mop up duty because he WILL play when it matters. Book it

4. Our starter goes through some serious slumps. Tua is a legit option to beat teams. Would not surprise me at all if somehow both are used in meaningful moments in the same game, especially given the difference a righty/lefty attack could bring.

On another note - If he didn't hold in high school it wouldn't make sense for him to hold now. Especially as a true freshman. I'm assuming JK was the backup holder for some time now and is great at it.
