They were quick notes to friends. Like people post on facebook. Where they are. What they are doing. Obviously just one on one.
My kids send them to my folks from places we travel.
Sometimes the radio station would play a whole album when it came out. Off and on this morning I've been thinking about where I saw one last. I know I've seen them many a time in and around the visitor center, downtown. I've seen them at the Fort, etc.
Back before they all disappeared there was a place in Summerville; local guy but kept up with the latest like Blockbuster. His ad campaign for years was "$3+3=6."

There was a station here that did that back in the 90s. They'd play the whole album, uninterrupted; no commercials, just one song after another. They'd hit play, then let it go. It was cool being able to hear some songs that would otherwise never get air play. Also, it was a good way to see if you'd want to buy the whole album or just the singles.
I still own a dictionary, a comprehensive single volume encyclopedia, I use paper maps when I hike, I keep a paper state map of AL & GA in my truck, and my check use has diminished but I still write them each month. Music from CD, cassette and album/45 in the last year. A few months ago, I found several old basic cameras my Dad kept in his boat and truck and I paid to have film developed. Only got about three viewable photos all from the bunch, and they were all on ten to fifteen year exposed film. That was a one and done, though.0 points. None.
As a kid, I would record AT40 on my cassette player. Cheaper than Ronco.
Graduated 1973. Heck, I'm starting to get my months mixed up.

My old Sears component system was a snap to record from the radio or album. The cassette unit was exactly this size, but screwed into the overall chassis and integrated. Several years ago, I snagged a couple of bluetooth add-ons that run out of the auxiliary for my old audio stuff. My wife was unhappy that I extended their respective lives. I'm thinking I was in fourth grade. It fits because I was a Star Trek fan at the time. I can remember making a "red and yellow alert" program (flashing screen, sound, etc.) that I stored on a cassette. I can't remember how it was integrated into the computers other than using the "line-in" off the cassette player.
Mental crutches, with me at least.
My mom was a math major and my dad an English major. I had no choice but to do well with ALG 1 and 2, Trig and Geometry. Dad critiqued every paper that I ever did!
