I remember meeting him when he was on his recruiting trip (met him and AJ at the same time). I shook his hand. And that dude has the biggest damn hands I've ever seen on a human being. He was smaller than he wound up as a senior (same height, but had less muscle), and he was big THEN. But the thing that stood out was he was super nice and kept saying "Yes, sir" and "No. sir" to all of us who asked questions. VERY polite and was always smiling.

Would love to learn more about this guy. Always see folks talk about him on here and how tough and good he was. Was he just mean in general or turned it on when he walked on the field? I know he has a great pro career as well and one of the best ever.

Rumored he was so mean Coach Bryant made him practice by himself.

One of the doctors I worked with was a freshman when Hannah was a junior. Doctor Hollis was a DL and had to go against Hannah quite a bit. Back in those days freshman didn't get to play with the varsity squad and were used a lot during practice. He said he got the best of Hannah in practice one time and coach Bryant called Hannah out with the megaphone when Doctor Hollis got by him. Hollis said he paid dearly the rest of practice for that. Also hazing was more acceptable and had to wash Hannah's laundry fold it for him.

IIRC Hannah used a chunk of his sign on bonus with New England to help Croyle make the purchase for the land where the Big Oak Ranch now sits.
