| LIFE CV-19: Effects on life, work, and sports

"What I've been hearing more of is that maybe doing something combining both basketball and football for the spring, so January-February 2021, and try to play both of them," Robbins said. "There will be all kind of implications for television viewing and confusion. I don't know. We just don't have any answers right now."

I got this off of Rick Karle facebook post.

Something has been eating at me and I thought I'd share my thoughts with you.

The other day on the news we had a story about some hard-working police officers sent to a house to break up a large gathering that had gathered for a birthday party- officers estimated there were over 50 people at the party in Andalusia, so they rang the doorbell to remind the folks there that under Gov. Ivey's Stay At Home order, gatherings of over 10 people are not allowed.

As the officers talked to the woman who was holding the party for her child, the woman turned to the crowd and shouted, "Does anyone in here have Coronavirus?"
39-year-old Melanie Nicole Chambers then turned and coughed into an officer's face.

Very calmly the officers charged Chambers with violating the stay-at-home order, and then arrested and charged her with possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
I understand that this is a very difficult time for all of us, but I'm coming to bat for our hard-working police officers. Their jobs are difficult enough without something like this to make it all the more difficult.
Here's an idea: As difficult as it is sometimes, how about we treat everyone, including police officers, with respect?
There are good and bad people everywhere, but I feel that law officers are at times under-appreciated.
Especially when someone is coughing in their faces.

That's crazy. Are we going to postpone everything until we have a vaccine?

I full expect college football season to be changed this year. How much is the question...

This whole thing is effectively putting a pause on our plans. Jobs, house up for sale, etc. I want things back to some sense of normal as quickly as possible so I can get the hell outta Texas.

I would say this story is hard to believe but then I saw Andalusia... sounds about right.

I'm actually of the opinion that it wont be changed at all. I would be shocked if practically every city and state aren't up and running by the end of May. Practically everywhere is pushing for this to end and I think the majority seem to be willing to accept the consequences - whether they fully grasp it or not - of a potential second wave of this.

Maybe where your at...but other states have gone in record already with a long phased in approach.

Our school district superintendent just announced a few hours ago prom and graduation canceled. Insinuated that even moving graduation to June wasn't an option by the state. Beleive he saying this based on information that will soon be released for Texas.

California Governor just had an announcement in the last 30 mins, essentially said no date yet, will announce as soon as possible.

I hope it will be a wise move but IDK. It is a major risk. Just keep old folks locked in and let the rest of the folks go back to work. Don't know how a restaurant can make it with 6 feet apart. They look at dollars per square feet.

Of course we will have a second wave of it. The shelter in place was never meant to stop it but to slow the spread. "Flatten the curve". We can't shelter in place too long waiting on a cure or vaccine. I think those with health issues or concerned about getting it should avoid contact with others for as long as they feel the need.

Georgia schools were canceled over a month ago for the year, so it sounds like y'all are behind the game there.

Depends on perspective. E-learning is an option here, probably something about state funding. Perhaps Georgia isn't setup to enable e-learning across the state quickly, so the only option was to cancel.

I just dont think it will hold up. With more states opening up those others are gonna feel more and more pressure from virtually everywhere, including from the top.

Have you noted when the next wave hits? Cold, flu season.

It has to happen. There are too many in the unemployment line.

I'm not effected. In any measure other than inconvenience. It's been profitable.

I'm not slinging drinks. I'm not cutting grass.

If you have work 70 hours a week to be able to do that?

I take that back. We are picking up weekly packets and still in session. Prom, graduation, and Spring sports and going to school were all called off over a month ago I mean.
