🏈 Coker a Cardinal

There will be a flood of FA signings in the next few days. Teams can only bring so many players into camp. If they weren't drafted, they'll want to sign with someone quickly. GMs and scouts know who is left and have them prioritized.

It is actually better to be signed as an UDFA than to be picked in the 7th round. If you are picked in the 7th, you might get 3 reps to prove yourself in camp, whereas an UDFA usually gets a workout to themselves, to prove their worth. Now they may not like what they see and cut you loose but at least you get a chance to prove yourself. Those 7th rounders need to make a huge splash with their very few reps.

I think it might be a best case for him. Stanton is an aging career backup. Barkley looked to have potential at USC, but it has yet to materialize after 3 or 4 yrs in the nfl.

Palmer is 36 coming off one of his best years that ended in a horrid championship game outing. He has likely 2-3 more years, tops.

I really thought the Cards would take a QB in this draft. Coker being their only udfa qb is a good sign for him. Given time to develop on the team, I think he has great potential in AZ. I hope it works out.

49ers, others come out of draft with same problems, or worse

From p. 5:

Cardinals quarterback

Between Carson Palmer’s age and industry history and Bruce Arians’ rep as a great developmental guy, taking a quarterback for the future was widely assumed. Everyone assumed wrong. They went in without a second-round pick (in the Chandler Jones trade with the Patriots), and the lack of picks likely turned “young quarterback” into a luxury instead of a need. So again, it’s Palmer and Drew Stanton and an all-in mindset until Palmer is finished.

Seems like Coker signed with a team that presents him with the best opportunity.
