Well just watched us lose to florida and it seems our team can look worse and worse question for everyone i like grant and im sure alot of people do and he has a good recruiting class with a few top 150 players but it seems like he cant get his teams over the hump we start 7-0 look good and now we are 16-9 and fighting to get in the big dance with losses to a bad south carolina team and tough losses to g-town miss st and kentucky does anyoen ever thing he will get it done or do you think his time is numbered and we need a new start with someone new

He'll definitely get another year. You give a coach 4 years unless he's a complete failure. Next year should be tourney or he's fired, but I seriously doubt that happens unless we are horrible. There's actually a decent shot that we suck next year if you look at our front court.:frown:

I don't know why people have such faith in this guy though and I initially liked the hire too.

There's still actually a slim chance we make the tourney. We're 5-6 right now and I still think 9-7 gets us in the thing. Next game is at home against Tenn. We can beat that team with Green playing; we'd probably be favored with him in. Our next game is @Arky and we are very unlikely to win that game even with our full squad as they are undefeated at home this year. But the last 3 would be State, Aub, and @ OM. It would be tough to win all 3, but it's not that farfetched WITH GREEN.

I have faith in Anthony Grant BECAUSE of what he has done. Give him time and he will win and he will win in a big, big way. Bama fans who are satisfied with simply making the tournament do not deserve Grant.

um its not like we are projected to be a 16 seed and are on the bubble right now. We just lost to the #12 team in the country, its not like thats gonna drop our rpi that much. If Joe Lunardi says we are around a 9 seed thats not fighting and clawing to get in. Thats just dont lose badly to bad teams the rest of the way and you are in. We arent Kentucky, Florida, Duke, or UNC. Makes me laugh how fast people act like the world is ending because of a few losses after all the crap the team has went through the last week.

I like coach Grant but I can't understand why when we come out of a time out the best we can settle for is our guard dribbling the ball until 8 seconds left and then shooting a 3 point shot. Do we not have plays we can call. It seems we do this everytime. Also why would we wait until Florida scores the first 16 points of the 2nd half before we call a time out. Hell by then the game was over.

Alabama basketball looks the best now than it has since Coach Sanderson was let go. They play defense, they hustle, and they go after loose balls. Take away some dumb turnovers caused by freshman mistakes and lack of experiance, and Alabama wins last nights game, maybe by double digits. CAG is running the program the right way. Given time, I truly believe he will have Alabama in the Final Four.

Coach C.M. Newton said it on Finebaum yesterday. Sometimes you have to risk failure to gain long term success.

With talent a team can be good.

With character a team can be respected.

With experience a team can improve and win more than they lose.

With all three, a team can become champions. Character is the only one of these that should be demanded by a teams' fans, and pesonally I don't think that a team can be a true champion without it.

Come on. So far Mark was a better recruiter. And as sick as I was of the high post offense, I'd love to see it come back with this craptastic "offense" we're trying to run now where we just pass the ball around the perimeter and let a mediocre shooter chuck up a 3. As of right now Anthony Grant has accomplished nothing worth noting at Bama. SEC West crowns and NIT appearances mean nothing.

This is the kind of blind optimism I can't understand. Why on earth would you think this? We ain't going this year and if you look at nex year's roster on paper with zero recruits committed, we ain't going next year. Grant hasn't shown he can coach offense worth a damn since he's been here either. It's a miracle when we break 70.

I've never thought Anthony Grant's goals were just to make the tournament. I think the things he is doing build a foundation for winning the whole thing.

Well what our your expectations then? It's Bama hoops. We're historically a solid regular season program that has always underachieved in the tourney. You really think Anthony Grant is going to win NC? Really? He's coached for 5 full seasons as of right now making the tourney twice and he's only won 1 tourney game. You've gotta walk before you can run. This recruiting class was overrated, look at these kids play. And the best recruit has been the biggest disappointment of them all. He's lucky he didn't pick Kansas because he'd be buried on the bench.

I'll give you a 6/10 on the troll meter, but I'll play along. It takes a special person to dynamite a certain tourney team. Grant has bigger things in mind. Will the team make it anyway this year? We'll see.

People can't hear what you say because what you do speaks too loudly. Grant is doing all the right things.

TA05, you may prove out to be right. It just looks like to me he's got the team headed in the right direction. Alabama, at least for now, can't sign the type of talent that UK can. So, CAG can't come in and turn it around just a couple of years. I want to see what it looks like with the team full of his recruits AND experianced. That is when we'll know for sure what kind of coach he is.

I think the over achieving group from last year (combined with mediocre SEC West opposition) raised our expectations too high. So much of the offense this year has been based on getting the ball to Green or Mitchell and letting them operate one on one, or kick it out to an open man if the double team came. One of these guys decided he was superman and shot no matter what, while the other has missed several games with injuries and is now suspended. All of a sudden Cooper and Jacobs (primarily) have been put in the Mitchell/Green roles, roles neither is familiar with. This season is unfolding as a bad dream, what else can go wrong type. I like what Grant has done discipline wise. CMG could not even discipline himself.

I won't get into the rest of the fray, but Mark was a better recruiter? That's a bit much for me. We only have two season to judge him against (sorry but 2009 was Gottfried), but if you look at the last 6 seasons under Gottfried, his players averaged 3.67 stars to CAG's 3.85. Gottfried did have 3 ranked classes in that time (8th, 8th and 13th), but the first two had high ranked players that never set foot on campus. In Gottfrieds last 3 years, he recurited 10 players of which two transfered and 3 were Juco. That left CAG with 4 sholarship players to start his team.

Way to early to try to say if Gottfried was a better recruiter, especially considering Grant had a top 5 class last May.

The only way I'll agree to this is if we define it a little.

Mark was a better recruiter of co-eds. That, I'll agree to in a heartbeat.

It's maybe a little early, but Grant's super awesome top 5 class was overrated and we have zero players committed for next year. The only remarklable player whose radar we are even on is Pollard and most believe he's headed to State.

I'll just never understand the hate for Mark Gottfried that most Bama fans seem to have. He's a pretty good coach who had a solid run at Bama and then flamed out. I was 100% for his firing when it happened too.

I also don't understand how everyone can dislike Gottfried and love Sanderson. I'll admit that I wasn't a Bama fan until I attended the university and that was after Sanderson's time. But didn't he get fired for hitting a woman? That's actually worse than what Gottfried did.

I'd have to say the hate comes from underacheiving for Gottfried. He consistently recruited well, got a couple of big wins, went beyond Sweet 16 once, then rested on his laurels and his azz thinking he was untouchable. I was there during Sanderson's tenure and he was nothing but consistent. He recruited well, won big games, got the team in the NCAAs regularly, and had discipline. I think what got Sanderson put out was the fact he tried to end a relationship with his secretary. She took exception to it and slapped him and his response was the same.
