🏀 Coach Avery Johnson with a message for the fans.

It's been a very long time, but I believe I paid for the 32 ounce. It was the 64 ounce, that if you finished along with what looked to be a three pound potato, they would give it to you.

Yeah, you're absolutely right. It was all the trimmings with that huge slab of meat that made the whole thing look impossible.

Where, what direction? Pell City has a drought of decent places to eat.
Oakmon, off of Main St., behind the high school as I recall. Maybe it was a middle school? There were two there as I recall; one behind the other.
They were later shut down when the owner was accused of cattle rustling - that'll cut your COGS.

Ya think?!?! Damn.

That reminds me of a girl I was seeing when I was in Tuscaloosa. She was bragging, well, not really, just commenting on how lucky she was to be receiving the bonuses she was getting as an assistant manager of the International Deli on The Strip ... only to find out the owner was dealing cocaine.

Man, they had a HELL of a Cuban.

Too stupid to put basketball?
You callin' me stoopid, injun?

In all seriousness, the prefix system was something that cost the site money under the last software. It took me a few days to code it this time so I'm sure I made the mistake editing news to basketball!

All this talk of steak got me thinking about a steak house chain in the Midwest in the 90s/early 00s called Ponderosa that had all-you-can-eat steak for like $15.

Was a decent sirloin cut, about 8oz. I could put down about 4-5 of those easily.

One of the better steaks I can remember was at a dive in my small hometown of Sulligent, AL called Country Squier. They carted a slab of prime beef to your table and cut your preference right in front of you, pointing the knife at an inch to start and stopped to cut when you said "when". I bussed tables there in high school and would go back to eat there periodically over the years. Last time there was about 12 years ago.

Might you know some Boyetts and Mixons?

Since we're still on mediocre steak house chains, anybody remember Western Sizzling? Or affectionately called the Sizzler?

They were still in their final breaths up thru the early 90s, @Birdman37
What was it? $5.99 all you can eat Salad/Soup bar and all you can eat breakfast for the same price?

In this area, the only chain type of steak house I'm familiar with is Golden Corral. I want to say that's $12.99 on Friday nights and again, all you can eat--but that includes steaks made to order, seafood...heck, just about any meat can be found. It's a "three-plater" if that make sense.

Yup.

We have no buffet style restaurant anymore.

We had a GC in the old Ryan's location (after Ryan's moved to Skyland/69) on 15th, but they closed down about 8 or so years ago. Then Ryan's goes belly-up last year.

Ryan's was decent. When they added steak that was cut and cooked right in front of you at the buffet, it wasn't bad at all. Not a fantastic steak, but again, AYCE.

Now we're stuck with nothing but single-platers with an average table wait of 30+ minutes.

Texas Roadhouse has a decent steak. That's about all I can think of. I hear Nicks in the Sticks steaks are pretty nice, but in all my years in Tuscaloosa, I've NEVER made it over there.
