Of course there is a period of adjustment after each coaching change. It is interesting to compare the season before with the 1st season for some of these.
Bama was 2-7-1 under Whitworth in 1957. In Bear's first year, 1958, they were 5-4-1, improved to 7-2-2 in 1959 and 8-1-1 in 1960 befroe running the table in 1961 and winning the NC.
Bama was 10-2 under Curry in 89. They went 7-5 under Stallings in 1990, 11-1 in 91 and won the NC in 92.
Obviously there was a differnce in relative talent levels with the players that Bryant inherited as compared with those that Stallings inherited, yet Bryant showed instant improvement, one of the many things that have caused unfavorable comparisons of every subsequent coach with the legend.
