🏀 Cecil Hurt not-so-subtly making the case for a MBB Coaching change

I now believe CAJ will be leaving for an NBA job shortly. I have been hearing rumors and speculation for some time from people that should/could know. I have no insider sources. Take it for what it is worth (not much).

Are they still looking back at Bobby Knight and wanting his clone? A return to what it was like in his tenure?

If so, and I certainly believe there's a strong possibility that's the case, they are in a very similar situations as a group of Bama fans who are wanting to return to the days of Wimp. I'd suggest the game has passed by both men.

On another note: Several weeks ago I heard Knight's health has really deteriorated. According to what I heard he's well past the early stages of dementia.
I would have believed this 25 years ago.

Not sure it is return to Bobby Knight as much as Crean simply did not win enough games. This is a results oriented business. I do not blame Indiana fans for having higher expectations and not settling. That's my perception of why he was not happy with Crean.
There's two ways I look at his story in Indiana.

One, he was barely over .500 for his career there and he was below .500 in conference games. And then two, there's three Sweet 16 teams in his tenure (four total appearances in the dance) and his last season saw a NIT spot.

Traditionally, there is no comparison between Bama and IU. Currently, I'm seeing a lot of similarities. Here we have fans who continue to point back to Wimp and CM and there they seem to long for the glory days under Knight.

We spent a long time living under the shadow of Coach Bryant with fans wanting to return to those days. That desire led to some bad decisions. Now, with basketball, I'm sensing the same types of attitudes with fans wanting to get back to the days of the aforementioned coaches.

I'd suggest the program would be better off leaving those days in the past. To me, it's becoming apparent that Wimp is a member of that old guard and that's not a foundation to build upon.

I am ok not having the same style as Wimp but as far as the results to me that would be much better than where we are. Playing Defense and sound fundamentals should be foundational regardless of style of play.

That I believe is an oversimplification of these type of comparisons. What I've read from a few posters is the belief that what you see is what we are or will ever be. That's nonsense. Our own basketball history says as much. Some of this may well be because they are so young they don't relate to what Bama has already accomplished. Getting first-hand info of a better basketball program should be healthy.

Coach Bryant selected Ray Perkins to succeed him. So picking the next great head coach even by the greatest coach of his generation is problematic at best. Thing is, we kept trying to be great until we got there.

I don't think Wimp and CM present the same challenge that replacing the greatest football coach of all time certainly did. My goodness. If I'm not mistaken, neither basketball coach got us close to the final 4 much less NC. Thinking that Wimp represents some type of high cotton impossible to emulate again borders the comical.

Knowing that the product has been much better than what we are privy to today shouldn't hurt anyone's feelings. But you never know.
