BREAKING: Donald Sterling banned for life - Clippers sold for $2 Billion

What's sad to me is how quickly things can be spun these days. People aren't even thinking clearly about this thing, just making quick decisions because of what they think was said/done.

His gold digging ex-girlfriend got exactly what she wanted.

I wonder about the legality of taping someone without their consent. Was it ever stated he did give consent to be recorded? Just seems very odd. He's still a racist prick who doesn't deserve to make money off people he claims to hate, but there are still laws in play here.

If the recording happened in California and he was not aware she was recording then it was illegal. That being said, it can't be used in a court of law as evidence and therefore he could possibly win a lawsuit against the NBA if they attempted to use the recording as evidence. What he needs to do now is call the police and press charges against her.

None of this is said to mean that he should be allowed to keep the franchise or not face fines and bans from the NBA. He is acting like an old time plantation owner trying to get rich off a group of people he hates.

Is he bigoted toward blacks? An obvious yes. Is he a putrid old arse billionaire who keeps spare "girlfriends" around for his pleasure? Obviously. Was he ticked one of them was flaunting her other relationships in the public eye? Sure. Should a private conversation, one he was potentially goaded into, be grounds to force the sale of a $600MM asset? NO. The piling on is almost - almost - as despicable as his egomaniacal, bigoted rant.

Makes me wonder who else is gonna be "outed" as a racist team owner/head coach/etc. soon. And what about players, who are either outwardly racist and/or say racist things in the locker room, to friends, on the court, etc.? And who defines what things are racist and what aren't, especially re: use of the n-word? This is really opening up a can of worms.

With ya there.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar had this to say, and I agree 100%: "So, if we're all going to be outraged, let's be outraged that we weren't more outraged when his racism was first evident. Let's be outraged that private conversations between people in an intimate relationship are recorded and publicly played. Let's be outraged that whoever did the betraying will probably get a book deal, a sitcom, trade recipes with Hoda and Kathie Lee, and soon appear on 'Celebrity Apprentice' and 'Dancing with the Stars.'"

He still has that sky hook when it applies to logic.

Wondering how Kareem's comments will be received, considering he's been someone exiled from the NBA coaching ranks.

And yes, from things I've read, coaches and players have known about Sterling for a while, but now they want to get on their high horses and get all offended and boycotting games. The Clippers coaches/players were more than happy to take his money for this long...why get upset now?

Bomanni Jones basically said the same thing Monday. Called out people for supporting and playing for him despite knowing (since at least 2009) that he was a racist prick. Also had this to say:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/04/29/bomani-jones-donald-sterling_n_5233565.html

"We hear all this stuff that goes on in Chicago and all these people who die, who lose their lives," he said. "All that stuff that's happening in Chicago is a byproduct of housing discrimination. … Housing discrimination is the biggest reason that we can point to historically for why we've got all these dead kids in Chicago fighting for turf, fighting for real estate with poor accommodations and facilities and everything that you're supposed to have in a city, poor education, all of this because the tax dollars and everything else decided to move away."

Jones continued:

"When we start looking at all these people in these lists who are dying as an economic byproduct of the people like Donald Sterling and you now have a problem because, oh my God, he said something that intimated that he doesn't respect his players? I'm calling you out as a fraud."

Over the last 20 years I have become increasingly less interested in the NBA. It has been known for years that Sterling is a racist prick. All the pompous braying at this point by players, former players, talking heads, etc. has killed what little interest that I still have.

The entire episode is dumb. I don't care if someone pushes Sterling in front of a bus, but to sit around and act like this has accomplished something grand is ridiculous. If everyone knew what everyone else said in "private" conversations, this world would burn.

Since he's banned, and by what people are suggesting he's going to be forced to sell the team, I'm wondering why on earth he'd pay the 2.5 million dollar fine.

Do those fines come out of allocated monies from TV revenue? IE: Like a payroll deduction, per se?
