🏈 Bo or Damien: Who's getting the carries

Birdman, just one question. Why do so many of your responses have to be so aggressive and demeaning? We are all Bama fans here. I don't have a dog in this fight, but believe we can disagree, civilly. We ALL love
our Crimson Tide.

lol why is it im the one that is singled out? Go back and look at the posts, I wasnt the one calling people dumbasses bud... I simply called out what I thought was a very dumb comment (saying that Harris had "no NFL prospects", etc.).

Birdman 37 and I have been 'forum mates' here for roughly ten years. One thing that I have noticed about him is that if there is a post on the football forum which criticizes one of our players, he will go after it and if you post such a comment you should know that you will have to defend it. One thing we should all consider when we are considering a post criticizing a player by nameis that while our current players likely do not have time to read these message boards, recruits do look at them, harsh criticism may persuade a player we want to go play for someone other than our favorite team.

Let me be clear, though, Im not gonna blindly defend our players. But yes I usually do take people to task on that especially when I consider it to be unnecessary and ridiculous. And Im sure there are some on here (maybe even you but probably def. TerryP) that recall my one and only suspension on here came from doing that very thing. I was completely disrespectful in my remarks about Lionel Mitchell after he had been toasted one game. I mean I went off and I got suspended from the board for a while for it. I learned my lesson especially after reading some of the things that I had said were completely uncalled for. I just think some people dont think when they post or even worse truly believe that they know more than the coaches (like this guy legit claiming he has an NFL scouts vision).

How in the world anyone that has been watching Alabama for any longer than a cpl of seasons could actually believe he does ANYTHING to just simply boost a players Heisman chances hasnt been paying attention...

Henry is carrying the ball well beyond the amount of any Alabama RB before him. I don't have the time tonight to look up exact stats, but surely we can agree on that.

He's had tons of carries when the game is clearly out of hand. In previous seasons we've had our #3 guy get legitimate carries in those games... Both Lacy and Drake became fan favorites early in their career in that role... Finishing blowouts with impressive runs.

Obviously the depth isn't near as good as in those seasons, but your reference to the way the staff has handled starting RB's in previous seasons probably works in my favor more than yours. I haven't done the math on it, but I don't ever recall the starter averaging 24 carries, and still getting touches in absolute blow outs. Maybe I'm misremembering though.

I think it's more likely that Saban is anal about how the team finishes the game, even in a blow out, as to why Henry is taking so many snaps. Hence the "perhaps" word usage... However, Henry is probably unprecedented territory at UA with his work load and the blow out carries are somewhat head scratching.

Henry gets the carries he gets because he's a workhorse. To me he's the best back we've had since Saban got here. Maybe not the best but he's strongest by far and he can take the amount of carries he's getting.

I don't believe Saban is trying to pad the Heisman stats (that's the last damn thing he's do).

Harris is an every down back. He is plenty good enough to be the starter were Henry not on the roster. Given enough carries/touches he would impress. I have no doubt about that.

As far as a physical specimen, Bo certainly has a different look and running style. I'm not sure that would translate into any more yards/wins tho.

Harris runs more in the style of Ingram with the shiftiness and lower center of gravity. I would like to see him get some carries in the next 2 games.

rtr

Neither one will get an abundance of carries if Burns isn't happy with their abilities with blitz pick up. It would be nice to see Harris get some more touches running behind the 1's and not just run when everyone in the stands plus the millions watching, knowing that BAMA is simply trying to run clock. Bo will look good once he has shaken the nerves. I'll go back and look. But it looked like on the bobbled exchange, Bo may have put up the wrong elbow, thus causing the ball to hit that HUGE ASS arm instead of his belly.

Yep

I get excited every time I see him come in the game. I hate that KD got hurt but I think Harris can offer a "change of pace" to King Henry's style just as Drake could, just a different type of runner than Drake or Henry.

I hope Bo comes on and has a great career for Bama but I don't understand the negative criticism some have for Harris. He has done everything that has been asked of him and has been in at the end of several games where there was really bad blocking plus 11 defensive players within 5 yards of the LOS. He seems to have maintained a good attitude even with that being the case. Bo did a good job rehabbing and getting back earlier than most anyone thought he would but (right or wrong) he negated that by getting suspended. The 4 game suspension is what has caused his lack of playing time IMO as the staff had to dedicate the 3rd position RB reps to a back they knew would be able to play from the get-go as opposed to wasting those reps on a suspended player (better athlete or not)

Something that hasn't been mentioned and should have been, our last two RB's were early enrollees (Henry and Yeldon). Harris didn't enroll until June and Bo's been here for a while, thus giving Bo a step up with regards to playbook, film study, etc.

If you remember correctly, when Henry got his first snaps in Dallas against Michigan after being on the team for 9 months, AJ had to tell him several times what to do. The blocking (or lack thereof) is why we didn't see Henry until later in the season. Blocking wasn't something he had to work on in high school because he was pretty much bigger than everyone he played against from most of the footage I've seen.

Do I wish that we had others that we trusted to share the load, hell yes. Am I going to speculate on who is better, hell no...haven't seen enough of either to have an opinion.

Do y'all remember Henry's first touches? They weren't that impressive either. Harris is a stud. He'll be fine given time.
Umm I remember Henry dominating the Sugar Bowl in his first year. Damien Harris simply isn't anywhere near that level of talent. In fact when he enters the game, we have no legitimate rushing threat, which is why Henry's been getting so many touches.
Drake was getting back to being a solid #2, but now he's gone. My point is we need an actual threat as our #2 back. DHarris is nowhere close to what Yeldon, Richardson, and Ingram were in their first years. Yeldon beat LSU as a freshman, and was a dominant force from day one. I'm not saying Harris is bad, I'm just stating the obvious that he's not the elite back we're accustomed to.

The sugar bowl, that was a year after he enrolled dude. Certainly not his first carries...

If you're going to sound all authoritative, at least be factual.
