⚾ 🥎 ⚾ "Uneven baseball" ... coming soon 5/23/21 (college baseball's scholarship inequities.)

All that money flowing through these programs and baseball and other sports get these weird ass numbers, can half scholarship, and all of that.

I'm hoping the NIL stuff will even things out a bit, but realistically I'm not sure it'll help all that much. Fact is, Alabama is behind the 8 ball with stuff like no state lottery funded scholarships and lack of merit based aid like Vandy can throw around.

Other schools like Arkansas are offering in-state tuition to combat your Vandy's. So much that could be done it seems.

Now here is something new for me, using Vandy as the standard.
Lottery assistance for baseball isn't new news to you. States offering out of state kids, in-state tuition may be. One of the Mississippi schools lead the way there.

Vandy is offering the normal 11.7, but also offers huge tuition programs essentially giving more than a normal number of scholarships. Academic and athletic aid...new territory.

I’m just hoping the Capstone will offer my daughter in-state tuition for her grades… She should have been more focused on athletics. What was she thinking! But in-state does make a huge difference these days.

A "full time job" paying Alabama taxes and owning any kind of property will also get you in-state. I know from experience as I did this. Find a friend that owns a business and set it up where she has one paycheck showing Alabama paid taxes. I mean, I worked more than one week, but just saying that's all they requested was the one paycheck.

Good info. I own a house in Florence still but the job may be the way to go. I have 2 more years to work on it. I’ve had friends here that got in-state offers for their kids based on the academics so that’s our hope. Kid has some brains and drive. Not sure where it came from…

AS I understand this...

There are some caveats to what he's suggested. One, as example, is where the funding is coming from for her tuition. IF it's on you and she's using your info/tax info for her Title IV funding she can't be a legal resident. If she's on her own, it's different story.

When I attended UA I didn't start until my mid-20's. It was my personal income that paid for room, board, etc. I was able to switch residency after one semester, after...

1) full time job
2) registered to vote in AL.
3) member of community organizations (I chose one church and one food bank.)
4)A few other small items that probably won't apply.

Good luck.

@Rolltide24 A guy I know that lurks here just sent me a text reminding me what he did a few years ago. He's a Prof at TTU and sent his daughter out of state. He bought a house, put it in her name, and put her up there. (After she graduates, he plans on selling the house and and hopefully breaking even.)

She was automatically a legal residence; property owner. He's pretty much broken even with the University's room, board, and food plans versus the route he chose.

TIWFIW.

thanks man, I wasn’t sure if that route would get her the needed status or not. Breaking even would be a big win considering the out of state excess that we’d save.

So Rick asks questions for anonymous “friends” and Terry posts replies for anonymous “lurkers”. 🤣
