The Crimson Tide overcame a 10-run deficit in the victory, a new program record
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Trailing 10-0 entering its half of the fourth, Alabama baseball began a streak of 12 unanswered runs on the way to a walkoff, 12-10 win over Ohio State on Sunday at the Jax College Baseball Classic in Jacksonville, Fla. The victory improves the Tide to 8-0 and earned UA the tournament title for the weekend.
Will Hodo was the hero for Alabama, finishing 2-for-4 with a double, home run and three RBI, with all three coming on his walkoff homer in the bottom of the ninth.
Justin Lebron was 2-for-6 with two home runs and six RBI, while
Kade Snell managed a double and two RBI as part of his 3-for-5 day at the plate.
Richie Bonomolo Jr. also contributed an RBI, closing the day 1-for-4.
Bobby Alcock made his second start of the season for Alabama, allowing three runs on two hits over 3.0 innings while picking up three strikeouts.
Aidan Moza was key in relief, tossing 2.1 innings while surrendering just one run to go with six strikeouts.
Tate Robertson (1-0) earned the win, giving up just one hit while striking out four across his 3.0 innings of work.
From Head Coach Rob Vaughn
"I just can't tell you how proud I am of our kids. Obviously, not the start we wanted. We left guys on base and we gave them some stuff in the middle innings, but (our guys) just kept showing up. I brought them together there in the fourth and I said 'We'll go the bullpen, they're going to hang us five zeroes and we're going to come back and win this thing', and you could just feel it in the dugout. It never felt like we panicked, we just kept setting innings up and kept punching. Obviously, having
Justin Lebron going out there and hitting two opposite field pumps gets you back in it. That comeback does not happen without
Aidan Moza and
Tate Robertson. Just unbelievable poise and competitiveness from (the team) gave
Will Hodo a chance to get it done."
