"With star left tackle Andre Smith suspended and converted guard Mike Johnson injured, the Crimson Tide allowed eight sacks of quarterback John Parker Wilson, who was pressured into two interceptions, including one on Alabama's second possession."

With Andre and MJ, this unit is arguable the best OL in the country. Lets be truthful, 8 sacks and JPW pressured into 2 INTs behind a line with true Freshman Linemen can't be compared to our other games. Our O could not have beaten Vandy last night.

"We weren't ready for them," Alabama nose tackle Terrence Cody said. "They took control of the game and that's how they set the tempo. I was stunned."

Wow! You mean like the flip-side of the Bama/UGA game? I don't see anyway that the Defensive No-Show in the first quarter does not fall at the feet of CNS' staff. Utah set an 84pt/gm pace. That's even off the chart from them. Its not the players because the same players set a 13pt/gm pace for the remaining three quarters. I love CNS, I'm just sayin' Wow!

----------
"We smacked them in the mouth early and took their fans out of the game," Utah wide receiver Brent Casteel said. "They probably didn't know what hit them."

Uhh, am I off base here or am I the only one that came away thinking that this was not a particular physical game, thus "smash-mouth" would not apply to a pass-happy game like this? Again, odd comment from a WR. (Come play an SEC schedule Son.)

As for physical, when did we forget how to tackle?

"Utah defensive back Sean Smith on Alabama: "Maybe they were upset that they weren't in the national championship game, but you don't just go out and play like you don't want to be in the Sugar Bowl."

Didn't want to be there?

Alabama linebacker Dont'a Hightower: "We just underestimated them. I guess because we thought they'd be smaller than us, not as fast, and wouldn't be able to keep up with us, plus we play in the SEC. It doesn't matter what conference you're in, who your coaches are, you have to be ready to play."

Not ready to play?

"I'm responsible to have the team ready to play," said Saban, after the 31-17 loss to Utah in the Sugar Bowl. "I don't think we were ready to play today.""

e tu Coach? e tu?

From everything that I have read/hear about CNS, these impressions from those involved in the game makes this the worst kind of loss (i.e. not showing up, not caring, and from the top down). Tragic for the Utes in that they were denied the chance to play the same team that the rest of our schedule played. Can this win be seen in the same light as the Boise St over Oklahoma classic? Does this game help their efforts to gain legitimacy?
----------

Does anyone else remember the Fiesta Bowl when we failed to show up against Louisville? To this day I believe the energy needed to prepare for that bowl was spent recruiting and training up the young ones who would not play in the bowl game. Perhaps it is echos of the past. At least that would explain a great deal.

Bama family, what are your thoughts?

***EDIT***

Andre was selfish imo. This hurt the team but I thought the team had learned its lesson early in the season about being ready for every game.

The bright spot is the team is VERY YOUNG. I still am amazed we got into a BCS game this year.

Man I had erased that Loiusville game from my memory.

I'll be the first to congratulate the Utes and give them their props and everything...but I will say their players lack one thing...class. They didn't stop making condescending little remarks ever since the matchup was made...and I have never saw more little cheap shots at our players than I saw in that game.

That comment stuck out the MOST in my mind.

You can analyze individual matchups, weight, height, experience breakdowns..yadda yadda yada ...all you want too but if you underestimate your opponent and dont show up ready to play like admitted by the team then all those stats are overshadowed by good coaching and focus from the other team.

Take all these breakdowns each week FWIW!

All the talk about fundamentals.. fundamentals.. fundamentals.. went right out the door. There were ZERO in this game.

I would of figured this team would of learned by now that it doesn't matter who we play or what conference they are in. You MUST be ready to impose your will onto the opponent.

Listening back on all the recent pressers by CNS, one word continues to stick out. "Worried". He said it several times and at first I figured he was just trying to be polite or PC or whatever. But now I see he was probably hinting at what he saw out of our team practice based on the film he's watched.

And I have to comment. Kareem Jackson is probably the single most person in our secondary that continues to have less than acceptable performances. The guy has not learned to form tackle whatsoever. ALL SEASON long I've watched this guy not make tackles he should have. He got burnt time after time out of position last night. He got burnt time after time on tackleing. We need a secondary next season BAD.

IMO, Bama was dominated in every facet of the game by a very good Utah team. How can a Bama team not be ready to play after in a major bowl game for the first time in years? How can the seniors not be ready to play in their first major bowl game?
A coach can only do so much. The bottom line is the players have to make the blocks, make the tackle and catch the ball. Last night, Utah, was the better team.

Some of KJ's tackle attempts last night were horrible, your right. He always seemed to be on the wrong side and trying to hold on for dear life.

Hightower & Cody's comments speak VOLUMES about Bama's preparation for this game.

For whatever reason, they were not ready to play or they just didn't take Utah very seriously.

Regarding Jackson, he wasn't the only one missing tackles out there BUT since he is on an island at corner (especially man coverage) his blunders were in the spotlight.

M. Johnson & Sharief were beaten in coverage & poor tackling all night. That first drive against the D was throw to whoever # 26 was covering... Grade school game plan when the opponent can't do grade school stuff. It is what it is...

BTW, this is why CNS made his comments in the presser that we need players that can play to this level  we need atleast 3 lock down corners & this shortfall was highlighted all night.

I'm a little curious as to what you saw. I just rewatched the game looking for bad behavior, and saw very little on either side. The only jawing I saw was Casteel after the PI in the end zone and Sylvester after the 4th quarter fumble, but it was no worse than your lineman telling him "I'm going to kill you" multiple times right after the coin toss. In fact, I'd venture to say that the worst "cheap shot" of the game came when your D-lineman blindsided Brian Johnson square in the back on his fumble, well after the play was done. A shot which separated his non-throwing shoulder, btw.

dude, seriously...

I'm so freaking tired of hearing about class.

do you think its "class" when the Bama fans boo the Utah team coming out of the tunnel? just curious what you think class is.
