🏈 Any news on the replacement DC yet?

If you don't see news of Jeremy Pruitt catching on somewhere this week, it is probably safe to assume that he's the guy. He is the most desirable DC candidate on the market right now.

I don't expect to see any news on Pruitt this week for several reasons. The biggest of which is how his contract is set up with UGA. There's well over a million on the table right now with buyout clauses, dates which correspond with their bowl game, etc.

Personally, I'm not looking for any news on this until 2016

If Kirby doesn't keep him, the buyout goes away.

There's still what UGA would owe him. I've looked over his contract, OP. His contract with UGA stipulates they will be held libel for the balance of his contract only if he doesn't sign elsewhere before their Bowl game.

It's set up a lot like Muschamp's contract with AU and UF ... which shouldn't come as as surprise considering the agent.

Fair enough. Then let me add this. Saban is ALL about recruiting, Pruitt is supposed to be a VERY good, aggressive recruiter. We lose another one of those with Kirby. Unless someone can convince me that Mel Tucker falls into the same category, I am going with Pruitt here. Let's watch Michigan, Auburn, and South Carolina for DC hires. If those spots fill soon and it's not JP, then I will repeat that it's Pruitt to Bama.

As much as I agree with other sentiments against Pruitt here, I have to play devil's advocate here. It's widely known that he's a bit of a douchebag (though not nearly as bad as Lance Thompson), all indications are he LOVES the University of Alabama. He's from here, played ball at UWA (Livingston), but grew up a huge Bama fan. He was a GA here in the 90's.

No doubt, he'd be a great recruiter for the university he loves. Can he be a great leader to the kids he coaches by building effective relationships with them? That remains to be seen.

Agreed. I was commenting on the buyout owed to UGA if he up and left. If UGA gets rid of him, they owe him. He'll coach through their bowl game and then sign with someone else. I don't think Kirby will keep him.

A couple of thoughts/notes:

People also considered Steele a great recruiter. Steele was one of the best evaluators in camps and with film as we've seen at UA. When it came to that "one on one, living room time" he's not that great. Good? At the right school, with the right head coach, yes.

Pruitt is a good, aggressive recruiter in the right circumstance. The relocation of his assigned recruiting territory (Mobile area) due to him getting his ass handed to him by Dameuyne Craig is something that wasn't publicized, but the point remains he wasn't aggressive enough in the right home(s.) Saban sent Lance down to handle those kids.

Right now, well, as of last week, the assumed list is down to two—Tucker and Pruitt—with the later having the presumed inside track.
You mention Michigan ... Pruitt has been linked to that job as well as another in the B1G.
It's my suspicion, based on what Saban has done in the past, it won't be a priority until this post-season is over.

Personally, I'm not real concerned about who comes in ... history tells us we rarely see a lateral move in coaching changes under Saban. I can only think of one that just didn't work out (and there was a lot of shuffling going on when Greg left.)

Tosh.

Lupoi.

I really think if Saban is looking long term (3-6 years) then this is the best hire. Tucker seems to be NFL bound at some point, Pruitt has his reputation, and I don't see Collins being the fit. Lupoi can be the next young DC star to learn under Saban, much like Muschamp and Kirby.

Give Tucker some other title- Assistant HC or Co-DC where he can be more hand on, or help Lupoi become a great DC while Lupoi is also learning the Saban way.

Lupoi = Kirby 2.0

In a perfect world ?

CNS finds a way to have Lupoi, Pruitt, Davis, and Tucker on the same staff.

Pruitt would probably make the best DC, but not sure how long he would stay before getting his own job. He seems to be ambitious almost to a fault. IF he would stay for 3-4 years though he would be the best option.

Lupoi seems like a great young coach that would maybe stay and learn under CNS for years to come in an effort to position himself for a HC job in the future. He is likely years from being ready for that so that would be good for continuity going forward.
