Sadly, I never ate at the Jacks on campus during my time in Tuscaloosa, or even when I come to town for something. Always busy though. Is it any good?

That's un-American right there. For all the rural areas and one horse towns in Alabama, there may not have been a McDonalds, Burger King, or even a Hardees, but there was a Jack's somewhere nearby. I would turn on the afternoon kids tv lineup, turn on Cousin Cliff, Cowboy Johnny Evans, Bozo the Clown and shortly thereafter they would have you singing along with these words:

"Jacks hamburgers for 15 cents is so good, good, good,
You'll go back, back, back, to Jack, Jack, Jack's,
For more, more, more!"

By the way, I find this to be quite amusing for this reason:

You know what's interesting and kinda sad at the same time is those Europeans are still big on social family meals, sitting down with families and enjoying family cooked meals and I might add a modest portion of wine. French folks enjoy a much lower death rate in heart disease even though their diet is high in saturated fats. Red wine is often attributed to raising good cholesterol that helps rid arteries of fatty deposits and a number of other medicinal value they enjoy over the obese in this country.

I don't think we have them in Georgia. Could be wrong though.

They also tend to buy their groceries on a daily basis. They shop each day for the meals they will prepare in the following 24 hrs and buy nothing else. Buying fresh ingredients. Whereas we go to the grocery store once per week or less and stock up on a ton of preserved food.

That is why I miss my old apartment, a block away from Publix. I would go there three times a week and get enough for a couple of days, fresh meat, veggies, fruit, bread from the bakery. Did almost all of my shopping on the outer edges of the store, very little in the aisles. Occasionally would get one of their subs.

They do not. It is an Alabama only franchise and you cannot throw a rock around here without hitting one. There are two in my little hometown of Fort Payne, one on each end of town.

The only really good thing is the vanilla milkshake, made with Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla, tastes like a summer day, sitting on the ice cream machine, turning the handle and then digging into a bowl. The other stuff is passable.

Not bad. SportsClips in Atlanta is $19.
It's cheap, IMO. I'll admit there's more to the story than just a hair cut but I was paying twice that amount back when I was in undergrad at Bama ('92-'96) at the hair salon in JC Penney's. Crazy side note about that...at that point it was the second largest (in terms of volume) hair salon in the JC Penney's chain nationwide.
