I love Jalen and I think he def. has a point and can see where he is coming from but this was not the place nor the time. You cant make comments like this in public and then expect your teammates to stand behind you, let alone your coaches. That sounded like a beaten young man.

I agree. EXCEPT... I think it's sorry thatSaban never sat these 2 dudes down and had a real conversation about where they stand, what they want their QB to do, and if there's a possibility of playing both.

And to anyone who says "Saban has said it many times in the media", well you're telling me that his 2 high character great kids who've pledge allegiance to the program and the university aren't owed a personal conversation from their coach? They're supposed to go to twitter or AL.com to find out where they stand?

Not a good look for Jalen to do this publicly but apparently he was muzzled by the program since the title game. Then Saban goes to media days and 2 days in a row makes what Jalen feels were misleading remarks about his future at UA. So I don't really blame him.

As a Coaches son, I’m sure he got his way. So now he’s having to work for it. I thank Jalen for what he’s done for The Team. But seems he’s crying over spilt milk! And BUTTHURT DAD

What about mom....read what she said to fans..... and throw race into it ( could be so interpreted as such anyway)
This ain’t going to end pretty.....this may be Nicks biggest challenge since he has been at Bama..."calm the waves...."...."right the ship....." land sucess fully "....
Glad its early in camp.....
With moms comments.....i have some doubt about JH..... sorry

Believing everything you read? Just askin'...because a lot of what you're saying doesn't fit.

Yet, Saban has said he and Jalen have spoken about the position. We've heard it time and time again. We know Saban sits with every player in the off-season.

No. What's being suggested here is simply not the truth.

"Jalen actually came to me and said ... 'I am going to be here. I am going to be here. I came here to get an education. I graduate in December, and I'm going to be here,'" Saban told ESPN.

Jalen has admitted to such.

If there's ever a situation where a player has been treated fairly this is a case. He was told you're going to have to compete. It'll be settled in the fall. We've all known that and Jalen has as well.

Again. Simply not true.

Tua had interviews at the Elite 11 but Bama players are muzzled. BUT, wait. Jalen had interviews at the Elite 11 and he's muzzled.

Friday night, Hurts explained to the Elite 11 high school quarterbacks how he could navigate such a challenging emotional dynamic.
ā€œNothing is ever about me,ā€ Hurts said. ā€œIt’s always about my team. I always try to put them first. I can’t do it on my own. Treat your teammates the right way. We went to a leadership thing at IMG (the previous offseason), and one of the key things that I took from it was, to lead, you have to be able to love. I’m not a soft dude or anything like that, but when I heard that, it helped open it up for me. I thought, if that’s what impacts my team and that’s what makes everybody else better around me, than that’s what I need to do. That’s how I can better myself by actually opening up and loving who I’m with and who my surrounding cast is.
ā€œI try to be humble and I try and do the right things. I was always raised that it’s right to do the right things. It sounds generic and stuff, but it’s real. You know right from wrong. Everybody in here has parents or someone who has raised them and taught them this is the right way to do things and this is the wrong way to do things. And regardless of whatever that situation is, you’ve got a decision to make about whether to do it the right way or not.ā€

BIG assumption there!!! Saban sits everyone down individually and talks with them. Besides, even if he didn't, Jalen knows good and damn well where Saban's office is and that he could go at anytime between January and now and express any and all concerns.

Could be wrong but I don’t recall there being confirmation that Saban didn’t/hasn’t talked to them. And, as I asked before, doesn’t Jalen deserve some criticism IF he wasn’t proactive in finding out where he stood? At this point I’ve gotta believe if he requests to see the HC he gets to see the HC.
Wednesday’s presser should be a doozy.

I'm talking about a REAL conversation.... What does a real conversation mean?

"Jalen, buddy, you will be competing for the job with a guy who's far ahead of you as an all around QB. You will have to drastically improve your ability to pass the ball to beat him out".

Isn't that the truth? The old company line "you'll have to compete for the job" could be said to any walk on in the country. Nothing personal about that.

And in regards to Saban's media days issue, I absolutely believe that Jalen was taken-a-back by his comments that he didn't know if Hurts would be there for the or not. Because in his mind Saban gave him hope he could win the job - Which most of us who could OBJECTIVELY evaluate those 2 QB's and how they finished the season could see those chances were slim to none. Now he enters the Fall as a 2nd teamer and is surprised... Why is the question?

Dang, more than a few comments in here turning on Jalen. For 6 months this ā€œkidā€ has had this hanging over his head. I’m sure he has been thinking about his situation every single day and probably reading about it from all of the armchair quarterbacks sharing their opinions. I’m more than willing to give him a pass on his recent ā€œoutburstā€. This guy has literally been the epitome of a team player and a great ambassador for the university. He has done a ton to promote Alabama in a positive way.

Exactly. Not to mention his coach goes to media days and throws out this awkward statement about how he doesn't know if Jalen will be here next season. Just weird. Then a day later, in Jalen's mind, miss-characterizes how their next conversation went. Clearly some confusion there.

All in all I don't think Saban is wrong for not telling Jalen he's unlikely to beat out Tua. Saban wants to keep both on campus, and IMO actually use both in games. But I also don't think Jalen is wrong for being disappointed that he isn't being told where he really stands... There is a crossroads here about a coach doing what he thinks is best for the team and the player thinking he's being mislead. Both can be true... And are IMO

No doubt. I don't understand it.

But Hurts did say he was shocked by the comments Nick Saban made during SEC Media Days, when the head coach told reporters he was unsure if the junior quarterback, who has gone 26-2 the past two seasons, would be with the team for the opener against Louisville.

"Well, I have no idea," Saban said then. "I expect him to be there."

Hurts was taken aback by that comment.

what will y'all be doing tomorrow?.....next week?.....next month?.....after that?

to me, Coach Saban could have simply been saying he doesn't know the future; just as none of us do. it's possible he was just saying he can't predict the future and doesn't know what will happen that far down the road.

will Jalen get hurt? tear his ACL in practice? an accident while lifting weights? argument with someone that causes him to leave school? family tragedy? something else? no one knows. it could even be something good that happens. no one knows.

what will happen to any of the other 84 players? we can't possibly know that either.

Hell, the team may catch typhoid and have to play that game with 11 walk ons... Playing both ways! Who knows!

All jokes aside, it raised a few eyebrows. Very un Saban like to even answer that type of question without be-raiding the reporter let alone with a statement that could be easily taken out of context. And regardless of what we think, obviously Jalen took it personally.

What you've done here is essentially make a statement based on how you think these conversations go without having been there or having had one personally. I haven't either. But, I do know speculation when I see it and this is a prime example.

Let's not forget we've documented proof Saban has had conversations like with quarterbacks on past teams. Some didn't like it and quit. Some didn't like it but buckled down and set out to prove themselves.

Saban not only had a conversation with Jalen and Tua, but also had a conversation--the same conversation--about Jalen with his father. So now we're looking at two conversations that weren't "real" conversations? That fact is there have been more than two conversations; a third being found just after "Tua day" in Hawaii when both were told what you're doing off the field matters as well.

The narrative (-$1 to Jalen using a catch phrase) is as wrong here as it is when he was saying "he's been muzzled."
