Please no... RS either Robinson or Najee... More likely Robinson. Would love to have Robinson back as a RS freshman next year with the potential of Bo and possibly Damien leaving. Wasted a year with Emmons last year that was really unfortunate

The trouble with that is they won't stay, I'm not sure if the stud running backs feel it's their birth right, or just a matter of honor to not be a senior at Bama. Redshirting just doesn't stick. I can't even think of a stud coming in where we even tried. I believe we redshirted Eddie Lacy but he still left with a year of eligibility left.

All true... Except back in EL's day, we had 1 amazing RB per class instead of 2 or 3.

Regardless, it's best for the kid. To waste a whole year of elibility on a handful of carries is just crazy. If I was Emmons/family, I would be extremely disappointed with that. Unless they asked for that... Then no sympathy.

Bo & likely Harris leaving after this season leaves a ton of carries for next season. Robinson could be the next dude up.

Lastly - RB's should be happy to RS. The Eddie Lacy career is ideal. The less wear & tear the more likely you are to make it out healthy, and more value you have to the NFL.

To be fair, if we redshirted any of these guys, I believe they would pull a Marlon Humphrey and be gone after their 3rd year anyway. Any of these freshmen backs could be the next Landon Collins or Rueben Foster on special teams. So I don't mind playing them to get them on the field sooner.

The last back I can think of with some talent who stuck around, maybe not Brian Robinson talent, was Jalston Fowler. But he also went through an injury season and maybe he didn't come in with as much fanfare, I don't remember.

Good points. My main issue is that wasting the year pushes them to transfer rather than being straight up and saying "Hey man, you aren't going to get meaningful snaps".

But sh*t at this point, so many great RB's coming through they just get replaced or upgraded anyway. Just like the idea of having healthy RB's who've been in the mix ready to roll... Thank goodness that Jacobs was such a pleasant surprise... Otherwise the mis management of Kamara/Tyren/Tenpenny class would have shown up last season.

Redshirting RBs is pointless if you recruit good backs. No good back is staying his 5th year. If they want to transfer, they have to go down a division or else sit out.

And Jones, Tenpenny, Kamara werent mismanaged. Jones was Excellent and played right along with Henry. Kamara got hurt and was a malcontent. Tenpenny got to play right away but got passed up as he wasnt the 2nd coming of Ingram like many claimed and just wasnt as good as Henry especially, or even as good as Tyren.

Who said anything about staying 5 years? I'm thinking get a few to stay 3 lol

How in the world were any of those guys "mismanaged?"

Pretty simple. To not have 3 of top 10 RB's in a class not take a meaningful snaps at RB either means they were mismanaged, or 3 separate misses evaluations in talent or character. Would you call that a good management of scholarships, or a mismanagement?

Sometimes more is less... Take less in a class or RS a few and maybe one or more produces something at UA.

You didnt say the scholarship was mismanaged, you said those running backs were mismanaged... they didnt take "meaningful snaps" (except Tenpenny did) because they were all 4-star/5-star running backs on a team loaded with 4-star/5-star running backs... and as far as "mismanaging scholarships." If we just took one scholarship running back every year, you'd complain about that being a mismanagement because you are going to miss on a player more times than not (or about even). For every Derrick Henry there are a dozen Tyren Jones'...

Tyren Jones was getting carries in the SEC title game in the first Q. He couldn't stay out of trouble. Tenpenny took some meaningful snaps. Quite a few. He just turned out not as good as Henry and Jones. Kamara got hurt and didn't see a way for immediate PT. None were mismanaged.

Eh you go a little overboard... Taking 1 is would be skimpy, taking 2 seems perfect. Taking 4 seems like a mismanagement of scholarships... And proved to be.

My main point is that college athletes get salty when asked to RS, but get way more salty when they realized they didn't red shirt and wasted an entire year for a handful of carries. Rip the band aid off early and RS the kids if it's best for their career. If they refuse, that's on them.

Agreed that there's more misses than hits out there... Derrick Henry was a freak physically and mentally.
