Nope! Different era then! Guys may have disliked position coaches or the S&C staff, but they all respected them for what they were trying to do. Fights between players was a different story though.

Yep! When I was coaching at Fultondale HS back in the mid to late 90’s, we played them in the first round of the state playoffs. To this day, it was perhaps the best single QB performance in school history for our QB that I was coaching. He went 12-14 for 285 yards 2 TDs and 2 2pt conversions. The incompletions were a drop and a spike to kill the clock. Houston Co tried to play man to man and we had receivers running wide ass open all night!!! The next week, we went to Luverne HS and they ate us alive!!! Believe they won state that year.

Nah! This would be Houston County in the far Southeast corner of Alabama. I believe the school was maybe 5 miles from the GA line and about that far from the FL state line.

@UAgrad93 it wasn't even 5 miles. Houston Co High was in Columbia, Alabama and was on the Chattahoochee River, literally on the AL/GA line. Columbia sits about 15 miles east of Dothan.

I can't help but think if an incident like this involving a player or two during the offseason was inevitable. I have to assume the renewed emphasis on physicality, strength, and toughness was going to result in a casualty or two. Plus with so many younger former players littering our coaching/support roster, it's hard to take the player out of the coach ...

Maybe they should have a get right room, boxing gloves and a ref…sometimes it is best to let men handle it…. If they both chose too… or would that be hazing… that way maybe Burroughs could’ve stayed humbly with a new found sense of respect..that’s the old military way..

I can see how it appeared that I implied that. Didn't mean to. I have no idea who is more at fault.

I do want to say however that a typical black player's response to being challenged by an older, less virile white man yelling white southern coachspeak to them that they never hear or use in their peer group or family changes when being yelled at and challenged by a younger, buffer, black male who went through a tougher and more austere Saban program a decade ago than players endure today. Probably resorting to a few N words here and there too. Poor youth, especially black youth, can usually be triggered by superficial things like this due to how familiar it is with how they grew up.

Have we not seen a rise in player-coach conflict since former black players have trickled more into the profession??? I never remember hearing about altercations between players and white coaches. Heck, do you even hear of white players assaulting coaches, black or white???

Sorry, meant to reiterate my initial point that when you are in the position of renewing something that's been lost, in this case physicality and toughness on defense (to compliment our offensive changes this season), you're likely to lose players or, in this case, push them beyond the edge of decency.
