I do not like the way he's characterized. He was as conscientious with the NCAA rules as he was where his spittle landed. While I have no dog in the fight I'll never be able to dismiss Holtz wearing Notre Dame gear to a UofSC event where he was appearing.

It's an airport read. I was in school when it was published. The copy of the book I read was tarnished. It had been through a few hands (bout like tests for players at ND...)

I met him prior to the 1980 Sugar Bowl during a teams function. Pure class. Immediately after the game during the handshakes he was again pure class complimenting Alabama on beating Arkansas. I always liked him after that.
