All of the teams goals are still on the table. Win the division, win the conference, make the CFP, win a Natty. Last night made it a little tougher, but it can be done. Saban. Knew what we had at QB and he just hoped that it wouldn't be the play of the QB that would put us behind the 8 ball. Last night it was ball security on special teams that did the team in from the beginning.
I didn't understand the move of Bateman to start the game, but after hearing the presser. It sounded like the plan was to stress to their defense to respect the QB run. The only problem was, Bateman didn't run it. Now this leads me to go back and stress once again about jumping to these "read option" QB runs. I said several weeks ago that the read option requires countless hours of "reading" the proper man, getting the meshpoint correct, etc. Now several members wanted to exclaim that they knew more than me and said it was so much easier than that and that we "ran it all the time." So now, what do we say about last night and the fact that Bateman repeatedly went around the end carrying out a fake 10-15 yards down the field UNTOUCHED?? Did Bateman simply misread it due to the lack of true experience in running it, was it called from the sideline, give or keep, or was Bateman chickenshit??!!! I say it was misread due to inexperience!
