I agree with you...I don't think Greg should run the option...my only argument was that Star is not a better runner. We do have a couple of former QB's playing other positions that could run circles around either. If we did something like wishbone for a play, they would be the ones to run it.

Obviously rivals was wrong on G-mac's rushing stats but how u can honestly see Star run and scramble and then say "oh yea Greg is faster and more athletic." Its ridiculous. But this argument is pointless...

Let me get this straight...you make an assertion, back it up with incorrect information, then blame it on stats from a site that you dissed earlier, and after it was pointed that out your primary supporting information was incorrect you are saying that it does not matter because your opinion is right? That is pretty arrogant. I have seen them both practice and saw them both play HS ball. McElroy had some nice runs in the SECCG and Star has yet to do anything but ride the pine. He has not had a meaningful run in 3 years.

Watts was a better runner than Zow or Star...Jonathan Ritchey was probably better as well. I know he was "more athletic." Super nice fellow and strong as a LB...the kind of guy who you would want to take into a dark alley with you for support.

Bama fans have a macabre fascination with backup QB's. Star is a funny one to be stuck on though...coming out of spring he is probably 4th string, and he may be 5th string by fall. I wish him well when the inevitable transfer comes - it almost did this spring. Did you know that the coaching staff almost burned AJ's shirt against LSU last year because they had more confidence in him than Star. If Star is super-athletic, they could have utilized that whenever GMac was in his slump last year. Yanking the shirt off AJ in game 9 would not have been a consideration. Quite honestly, the coaching staff has been scared to play Star and he will likely be behind Phillip Sims on the depth chart by fall.

GMac is a better runner than Sims too. Sims is a pro style QB.

As far as high school, I've seen both guys tapes/highlights and that's what I based my OPINION on along with Star's limited scrambles in A-Day's/games. When I pointed out that your statistical information regarding Greg rushing for less than 400 yards in his entire HS career was not only incorrect, but accounted for just over HALF of what he rushed for his senior season in HS, it turned out that you got your info from Rivals - the same site that you said "I don't care what Star's Rivals profile says." In reality you do care what Rivals says - as long as you can use it to bolster your point...which is incorrect.

In HS, Greg was a spread QB. Just from memory, he ran for 700 yards his senior season, and I think it was 12 touchdowns, against the highest division in Texas - even though he was primarily a passing QB. Part of Star's problem is that he is slow reading defenses and tends to run too quickly...he had that same issue in high school, which resulted in a lot of rushing yards. GMac goes through his reads much faster and generally does not take off until there is no other option. That said, GMac has very good vision, and outstanding balance when running downhill. He is slightly slower than Star running in a straight line. You really need to qualify the term "athletic" as you are using it. Greg's balance is easily as good as Star's, and while a tad slower, he is bigger and stronger. The term "athletic" gets thrown around too much imo, and I don't think anyone can say that Star would perform better in a spread option offense. It is a blind guess based on unfounded assumptions.

What does JR have to do with anything? Just an example of a "more athletic" QB who was not as good of rusher as someone "less athletic." Tyler was athletic, but from a pure athleticism standpoint, not many on the team (at any position) were better than JR. Even today he is built like a linebacker...but he was not a better runner than Tyler. That said, he was very good...one of Fran's greatest failures imo was to not utilize him for more than a holder on pat and fg team.

Would Star perform better in an option offense? Maybe...but I don't think there is enough proof to make that statement. Going by the same proofs, Zow and JR would have been 1-2 in Fran's offense. Zow ran for a ton of yards in HS, and JR was a physical freak...but Watts was the one who ran for 1000 yards in his career.

It is unbelievable that it got like this from me simply saying Star was a better athlete and someone I would rather see running a Wishbone/option type offense than G-Mac. You are the only person who appears to have given an emotional response...all because I commented that you probably thought Zow ran better than Watts. Psycho might be a bit strong, but definitely emotive.

Ability to read defenses most definitely comes into play. If you are more likely to pull it down and run at the drop of the hat, you will have more yards than someone who goes through the progression consistently.

You only presented it as your opinion now. Up until this point it was a fact that anyone should know, and it is cut and dried. My point was (and is) - it isn't.

As for the rest of your argument, I agree - it is pointless.
