🏈 Will Anderson Jr.

After I was extremely critical of Will Anderson last week (and really since the Florida game) and felt like he was underperforming, I am happily eating helping after helping of crow because he was a man possessed tonight. I think you could definitely argue the two picks were really what broke MSU's back but I truly believe Will Anderson's play from around the end of the first quarter on is what did it. MSU seemed to be handling him decently early on, he wasn't being doubled much at all, but then he started getting pressure and sacks. It seemed like every snap he was either making a play or getting in the QBs face. That forced them to double him virtually every play opening things up for other guys (who also stepped up). He talked the talk and walked the walk. Now, Im gonna sit down and STFU.

Well I think he was not as active the prior couple of games. Now some of that could have been on him but others may be the other teams OL were better than he faced tonight. Probably some of both. He was a man possessed tonight for sure and his matchup with Lashley was ideal.

One reason we need others to step up because better teams are going to double team him and other pass rushers have to make them pay.
Do we have anyone else at this point? I know we have a roster with 4 and 5 star talent, but no elite ready to play guys. Losing Allen was huge. Sanders is gonna be really but, but even he needs more development both physically and positionally. I'm not sure we have an above average defensive lineman. Maybe Saban should incorporate martial arts training so those guys can learn how to use their hands and leverage to get off blocks and manipulate/utilize angles.

This my concern. Only Anderson is playing to the Bama D Standard. Good teams will slow Anderson down. Great teams may take him out of the game all together. Now he is really good so maybe taking him completely out is not possible but he will not dominate against those teams. Used to say that about Derrick Thomas and no one ever could stop him. Maybe they have to get creative and move him around enough so that they can find the matchup that is best and he stays dominant in every game.

Finding at least one more playmaker on the DL is really needed.

Anyone here going to give credit where it's due? Will played a great game but who put him in position to do so?

Anderson has lined up on both sides all season up until last night where he spent all but two, maybe three, snaps lining up on the right. Someone saw a weakness and lined him up there all game long.
I will give no credit to Pete, LOL. Only kidding

I didn't understand the heat Anderson was taking last week at all. He's one of the few that Saban has been more than pleased with from the jump. He's job got harder when Allen went down, then even more so when Sanders went down... but he's still going out there and playing his ass off. He had a captainship locked up in spring, which is pretty remarkable for a guy who hadn't played a down of his 2nd season yet. That's how much he's respected in that locker room. The dude is just special. If he wore #55 I'd think we were in a time warp.

All about consistency to me. More than one or two games in either direction. The D has not performed consistently at a high level under PG's leadership. I do not see a highly confident group which impacts your energy, ability to play fast and play the next play when something goes wrong. This is the up and down that we see. I still do not like the fact we cannot hold the point and there are yards to be had running the ball between the tackles. Is that the Jimmy's and Joes, scheme, coaching etc...? I am sure it is a combination of all of it.
