Much of this is true, but you have to have stops to get up 14-21. We weren't shutdown good last year, but where did we rank in the SEC?

I agree with you, but the defense is maybe 30% responsible for that 30-3. They should make a few stops against Arkansas, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Missouri, LSU, Tennessee, Auburn, and Texas A&M with where their programs currently sit. I'm not saying they should be lock down and shut down, but the offense has put teams on their heels and wears them down. The defense was probably affected by that lightning pace, and I understand that, but it doesn't excuse 3rd on Long conversions at an alarming rate. I guess I can't get over Calzada lighting us up. Even Rogers last weekend threw the ball pretty good against us, he just made some mistakes that took points away from them.

But...we should rank at top...with our recruiting....
The DC has keys to a loaded closet...( as does OC)....

If its "the Jimmy and Joes”

Can find an excuse for a game or even a season...injuries..
But our D isnt a NS type...and hasn't been

I think right now Everyone is looking at Georgia and said, " Why can't we have same defense like Georgia does!"

here's the thing: They're very good. they're legit. But it will take a very good offense team to expose them.
It will take. A great offense to expose them...gonna be tough to run ball...but their backend isnt world beaters....

But...the can power run also...

Right now....anyway....

Yep. UGA is elite on defense in every sense of the word. But, they are an outlier (much like UA has been in past years). Yes, Alabama needs to clean things up and some guys need to show improvement and much more consistency, but UA is #2 in the SEC in total defense. Throw in the fact that the Tide has played the only 2 teams in the league that are averaging over 500 yards per game (Ole Miss and Florida). In life and in sports, things are often not quite as good or as bad as they appear to be. In this case, IMO, it's the latter.

Kentucky showed some mojo early. They weathered the storm a heck of a lot longer than Arkansas did. It will take a seasoned team to take them to the limit. We can do that. We have the endurance to make them play for an entire four quarters against quality talent. They're currently playing four quarters, but their opponents are giving out of gas in the first half. I still have my doubts about us against them, but our offense is the only one in the country that can go toe to toe with them size wise, depth wise, and talent wise. No one has had the opportunity to stretch them deep because the front seven has absolutely dominated everyone. If we can find a way to hold up early and send a few deeps shots, I think we can beat their untested secondary, no matter how hard Lewis Cine thinks he can hit somebody. Stetson Bennett has been dang good for them, and probably better for them than JT Daniels. His little touch passes to his tight ends concern me. All in all, it'll be a killer game to go against them. You can bet your bottom dollar it'd be a VERY heavy Georgia crowd in Atlanta.

Numbers dont always tell the true story...ask an accountant...
Watching very bama game....i am not surprised we are #2....but dont see a ns quality product...do you?

Not me I have been beating this drum for at least two years which is why Terry is calling me out like dude when are you going to accept things have changed even Saban is saying so. Anyway, I would never compare Bama to anyone but our own Bama standard.

Genuinely cannot remember - When is the last time a DOMINANT defense won the championship?

The 2011 Defense was monstrous... LSU didn't cross the 50 yard line in the NCG & that LSU was considered one of the best teams to play the game.
They got exposed by that defense both at the home loss & in the NCG. Then there is the 1992 NCG against Miami. I don't think there was any question that was a Dominant Defense.

I try not to throw out tons of numbers/stats for that very reason, so yes I get it. But, numbers and data are certainly helpful in many cases as well. Certainly more valid than fans yelling, "ToTo can't tackle dammit, put in a walk-on who will try harder" at your TV. As to point #2, is the defense where Saban wants it? No. Is it where I would want it? No. Is there room for lots of improvement? Yes. Is it better overall than I think most would think? Yes. Is it good enough to win a championship? Yes.

We agree..mostly

I'd guess it just depends on your definition of dominant. I think with many fans, there's a wide gap there.
Tops in the country I suppose? I know the Bama vs LSU game in 2011 would have been the best at least by the eye test

I guess my point is that having a great defense is important, but having a high level offense is more important in today's game.

And in that regard, I think in December there's a good chance Georgia will be wanting our offense if we want their defense... And 1 is a little more valuable than the other

I think with Alabama this year, I wouldn't consider them dominant (like UGA), but I do think they have the ability to be dominant on any given Saturday. And while you can put an excuse bow on this, Chris Allen going down really changed things. If he were out there with Anderson on the other side... that is "how in the blue hell do we scheme around this?" territory for an offensive coordinator.
