I saw that. Upchurch was one of the few I never saw on the airplane. I'm sure I just missed him. At the time I didn't know he had such a good game. He seems like a fine, young man. Could you imagine - a teenage, all-American football player with probably an active school and social life being his grandmother's caregiver? Wow! Hats off to Roy!
Nice story. I saw the writing on Roy's tape Saturday night, but couldn't read what it said. It looked like an RIP tribute though... glad to know the rest of the story.
I agree with you Bamafstback that Roy has made a change for the better. I watched the replay last night and Chris Stewart stated that Coach Saban had dubbed Roy, " Irrelavant Roy!" He then told him that if he didn't change things around that he would be replaced just as soon as he could find a new recruit to bring on campus.
I have newfound respect for Roy Upchurch not only as a player, but as a person. He is showing a depth of character that wasn't apparent earlier. I am proud he has "found" his way.
Sometimes something bad has to happen to bring out something good in someone. I hope Roy dedicates his season to that boy by writing that on his tape every game this year. I'd pat Roy on the back and thank him for turning himself around after reading that.
