| FTBL What I find interesting about the Dylan injury and the media narrative

First, let me send out positive wishes to Dylan for a speedy and complete recovery. I know he must be devastated and I really feel for the guy. He's been nothing but a class act and a hard worker his whole time here. He deserves the best.

Now then, I keep hearing about how Dylan was a guaranteed first round pick and his loss will cost us any chance at the national championship and possibly even an SEC championship. So let me ask this: Clemson lost all four of their D-Line starters to the draft, but they are still the favorite to win it all???? Why isn't that considered at least as devastating??? And, yes, I know... defensive signal caller and his back-up is a freshman... but still, give me a break.

I guess Clemson is the new media darling. As I am typing this David Pollack is going on about Trevor Lawrence (clearly the love-child of Peggy Bundy and Cameron Diaz) as a generational talent and far and away the best QB in college football, etc., etc. I just hope Tua is hearing all of this stuff and it lights a fire in his belly.

Because they kicked our ass the last time we played... It is what it is.

Yesterday I was a bit on the doom and gloom side with Dylans injury and our 4 suspensions (which is more of a disappointment than doom and gloom but I wanted to see us hitting on all cylinders at RB behind what I think is going to be a steamroller of an O-line), but today I am kind of excited about watching Lee and Harris take up the mantle and open a can of whoop-A, I know there will be some learning curb but I see the upside to what this duo can bring, also I am interested in seeing what Keilan has to offer as CNS said he has the Juice so let him rip I say, hopefully Ford can get some get reps in as well, so my doom and gloom has turned more positive today, I think by the time should fate have it we meet Clempsum and its long haired nasal superstar we may have something for him and Drabo

IMO the road to a natty just got tougher. Clemson beat UA as soundly as they've been beaten in CNS tenure. Trevor Lawrence absolutely lit up an Alabama defense. Sure that defense had holes in it but it was still an Alabama defense and he looked damn good against it. Everybody (hyperbole) bitched and moaned over Mack Wilson at LB last year, I guarantee some folks will be weeping into their pillow this year when a TE is running free across the middle or wide open on a seam route. It will happen. I hope the defense will gel. Hell I hope they come out and play flawless but the odds are against it with 2 Fr in the middle of it. I hope UA wins it all but until they do Clemson is the reigning champion of CFB. These are opinions I have formed, not those of the media.

Question 1: Who guaranteed him a first round pick?
Question 2: How could Alabama lose any chance of a national championship when they haven't played a down? Only one team in the top 20 has played so far (Florida). There's a lot of football between now and the end.
Statement 1: Clemson's loss of four D-line starters occurred in January. Since then, any potential new starter has had Spring practice and the month of August to get ready.
Statement 2: The media are giving their opinions. Opinions are like buttholes. Everybody has one. Opinions are not facts.

Well as we know from experience losing basically your D-line to the NFL on defense is tough to overcome even for a Clemson, so I am not giving the NC to Clemson, yes they beat us last year and they beat us bad, but that was last year...and I think our O-line this year will be the nastiest we have had since 2012 to push on that rebuilt Clemson D-line so that gives me great optimism and I still think our defense is going to be very good freshman or not barring we don't continue to have a rash of injuries especially in the secondary, also I don't want to overlook several teams including Georgia/Atm/LSU/Aubie just yet either so Clemson worries are a long way away yet, besides the long haired beaky nosed wonderboy could also go down to a season ending injury and where would Clemson be?

@jdpas29 I think the secondary (nice depth) and the DL (hella depth) combine to give UA an overall better defense and like Tidestalker said, a healthy Jennings and Lewis will be a joy to see. I am really only concerned with the times that everyone looks to the ILB to set the defense. I just think about a freshman needing to know not only his assignment(s) but those of 5-7 other players also.

I am not hand wringing, just expressing my concern

Its really funny about so many that know so little about even less...
Read up and down here or there...you realize the truth is there.
Football is a long season with a lot of different parts....
The losses are great in respect to these fine players.....but there has to be many stepping in and stepping it up...other teams will lose stars along the season...
And so the beat goes on

My mindset is back to pre-season 2008. I don't give a rats azz about projections of who will be in the SECG nor the NC playoffs because they don't matter. I look forward to see watching those young'uns when they blow that whistle on Saturday. Don't get lost in the clutter.

Take Duke plus those points.

If there is a post of the year election I nominate this. Good advice for old and young alike. Good advice for me

Until we have close to the injuries at LB like the 2017 team, I'm not got to freak out. I seem to recall that team won the NC w/ a true freshman at QB for just the second half. And that QB is now a junior.

Oh Dylan Moses was a true freshman starter in November that year too. At least these true freshman LB's will have all year to get better.

C'mon y'all don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Hard to replace a talent like Dylan for sure. However only a hand full of programs have the kind of talent and ability to overcome this. The inexperience on D is a concern and will likely show up early but these young guns will learn and get better. I never underestimate the magic that Coach Saban seems to be able to do year in and year out. I would never count him out. Evidence by his team almost winning a NC after firing his OC a week before the game.

2017 was a particularly bad time for us, injury wise. It was as bad as I had ever seen it. It was just about on par with 2004 when we lost our entire starting backfield in the first 3-4 games. But...we didn't have too bad of a year in 2017, if I recall correctly. Yeah, the loss to the fighting chiziks was a low point, but...I think we more than made up for it later on.
