šŸˆ We Are not generating enough sacks! Do you think Saban and Smart are cheating back some due to our y

I think we def. didnt throw the blitzes or disguise our blitzes like we usually do in the 1st half but they let the dogs loose in the 2nd half and we got alot of pressure and both sacks in the 2nd half.

I dont care about the sacks, I just want the pressure. Mallett is a pretty big qb, so it was going to be hard to get him to the ground before he got the ball out.

But just pressure is good enough.

Actually he went down pretty easy yesterday. I mean Hightower just put his hands on the guy and he flew backwards like he had been launched. I think he was fishing for a free 15 yards in that 2nd half tho, trying to use our aggressive against us. Thankfully the refs didnt feel the need to try and put the screws any worse to us.

Yeah, that was a hell of an acting job wasn't it!?!? I know Hightower can be a beast, but all he did was give ol' frankenstein a little shove. Mallet acted like he was shot from a cannon or something. :lance:

Well Coach straight up said they were vanila the 1st half.....becuase they were afraid of making
some mistakes. they were conservative on D and didn't play very aggresive. But in the 2nd 1/2 he let them loose
and felt like they played better when they were allowed to be more aggresive & the team responded better.

That explanation is good enough for me. I belive we'll see a much better defensive unit this week when the Jorts come to town.

We have only generated four sacks this year one a game. That won't get it done against Meyer and The Visor! But RTR! 4-0 and still #1!

Unless Florida can consistently get the ball from center to Brantley there won't be much to worry about! UF's offense just doesn't scare me yet.

USCjr may be a bit of a test for your D due to the size of their receivers but Garcia is that team's own worst enemy. If Garcia doesn't mess them up too bad, Spurrier will yank him and put in Shaw to put the nail in their own coffin.

Why does everyone get caught up with sac #'s. There is not one single indicator/statistic that equates sacs with winning. However, there are tons of indicators/stats that show pressure, hurries, and changing the QB's launch point directly affect winning. WE DON'T CARE ABOUT SACS! Our defensive philosophy is to make him throw it off balance, hurried, and/or out of rhythm. We want TO's. I'd rather intercept Mallett three times than sac him three times and give him three more opportunities to make a play.

I suspect that the failure of the first half of the Arkansas game and the successes of the second will prove invaluable. Brantly will be on the road as a rookie. Can he expect to fare any better than the veteran Mallet at home? Garcia is physiacally capable, but mentally weak. Isn't the forte of the Saban/Smart defense the mental edge? Furture, being six games in by the time we hit Columbia, that young defensive backfield will be as close to being veteran 2nd year guys as they are rookie who have not proven anything. I,for one, have hope.

Pressure and hurries are what bothers a QB more than anything. If he doesn't have time to make his reads or go through progressions, he can't be affective. To me, sacks are alot like homeruns in baseball. They look cool and everyone loves them but they don't always win the games. Some of the teams that are at the top of MLB for homeruns are cellar dwellers.

i was laughing my ass off when he went flying backwards.

Getting the pressure is the best thing we can do to protect our young secondary. The more a QB is looking for who is going to hit him and not for his receivers the better for our secondary.
All it takes is a few whacks and they start looking for who is gonna hit'em. We need to dial up more pressure for the sake of our young guys. I think Saban said as much in the presser.

We will be fine.

...sacks or no sacks - I like the way our 'D' turned the tide in the game and helped us win. Especially after all the talking heads have been saying that we'll have to rely on our 'O' to carry the team this year. One hand washes the other...I love it.
