🏈 Vote for the best Crimson Tide linebackers

My three as well.

Coach Bryant said the Jordan was the best that he ever saw. I can't buck that. Between Bennett and Thomas, I would have to go with Bennett because Thomas benefitted from people running AWAY from Bennett.

Thomas, Biscuit, and Ryans

I would have voted for Jordan, but being only 26...i have no idea how he played....etc....

Also, ive meet Ryans a few times....nice guy.
Certainly nothing wrong with DeMeco. Jordan's game was similar...great lateral movement, unbelievable football instincts, terrific tackler. Jordam also was small for the position. He played at 207 in college, 215 in the NFL.

If old 54, 55, and 97 arent the top of that list then there is a problem.

As for being too young to see Lee Roy play. Me too. But I picked up a copy of the Orange Bowl tape where Bama beat Oklahoma. He was a monster. Plus he also played Center if I am not mistaken.

Put 55 on one side and 97 on the other. They run away form Bennet and right to DT! The middle is covered by Lee Roy! Awesome.

Barry Krauss and Leroy

It is not a popularity vote and this appears to be one.. Barry Krauss was always compared to Leroy Jordan. Barry Krauss was the only Defensive MVP of the Sugar bowl, and MVP of the 76 Liberty bowl. Alabama Hall of famer and now nominated for the College Hall. A two time All American. You can make arguments for all of them only these two Jordan and Krauss played inside linebacker not QB chasers. Thomas and Bennett were great, Krauss and Jordan are legends.

I'm sure that Steve Beurlein thinks of Biscuit as a legend.

I'm surprised more people are not choosing Krauss. He's in my 3, Jordan, Krauss & Bennett.

Bennett and Thomas won, and I have no quarrell with either of them being selected, obviously, since thet were two of my three picks. Since there are only two linebackers on this poll team though, I wonder what kind of defense they have us in. If its a 5-2 type, Bennett and Thomas would be more DE types. Obviously popularity and recentness had a lot to do with the vote. LeRoy (IMO the best Bama LB ever) has been gone from active play a long time, and Krauss didn't play in the NFL after the mid 80s. Bennett and Thomas would be familiar to a lot more fans than Krauss and Jordan.

The NFL has nothing to do with College, bad comparison. Barry Krauss Played longer in the NFL than all the ALABAMA linebackers. Barry Krauss played from 1979 thru 1992 ended his career with the Dolphins. I have no idea where you got mid 80's. Once again the NFL has nothing do with college. You pick based on what they did in college. Thomas and Bennett were great, however they played in a different defense and at different positions. Middle Linebacker is the heart soul of any defense always will be. Too bad most things are a popularity contest. Thats why years ago Krauss and Jordan were picked for the All Century team and all decade teams by the people who know.

I could be wrong, but I don't think the poll asked us to consider only the college play of the nominees. Had that been the case Bart Starr, who was on some dreadful Alabama teams during the Ears Whitworth era, and was injured much of his college career, did nothing worthy of being nominated.

Here is the write-up on Lowe.

Woodrow Lowe Selected to National College Football Hall of Fame

Former Alabama linebacker Woodrow Lowe has been named to the 2009 class of the College Football Hall of Fame it was announced on Thursday by the College Football Hall of Fame Foundation, Inc. Lowe was one of the Crimson Tide's all-time great linebackers, playing for legendary coach Paul "Bear" Bryant from 1972-75. He is one of just two Alabama players to be named a three-time All-American, earning the honor from 1973-75.
