| FTBL Utah fans....

I want to welcome you to our forum. I think, based on what I have read, you haven't been treated with very much respect but I'll give you your props. You are 12-0 and beat the teams on your schedule. I watched when you guys beat a good TCU team at home and was impressed by your fan support and it looked like you have some very good athletes.

I think the sentiments you are getting from Tide fans is simply "disappointment hangover" from yesterday and they shouldn't be taking it out on your team. Thank goodness Coach Saban and the team won't take the Utes so lightly should our two teams meet in New Orleans.

Congrats on the great season and welcome again!!

Welcome to the board! He's right.I'm sorry if I've bitten off a couple of heads. We're still reeling from yesturday's defeat.

12-0.That's an awesome place to be! Even after the
Sugar Bowl(Win Or Lose) Y'all should stick around!

Thanks!

I look forward to a fun exchange and hopefully learning experience by both fan bases! Please remember if you show up at utefans.net that we have our idiots too! :D

In addition, I can guarantee that you will get some BYU fans posing as Utah fans to make us look ridiculous. They have done this on every board.

We understand that concept completely. Auburn fans will come out of the woodwork on Utah boards running us in the ground. That's to be expected.

You'll find most here to be cordial and VERY knowledgeable about football. I'm looking forward to the dialogue.

Thanks for the words....

Truth is, my best friend grew up in Guntersville so when not playing the Utes I'm always a bama fan (I don't have much choice, he makes us watch all their games). He too went to the University of Utah, so he's now a Ute but this will be the hardest game of his life he says. Here's to a good game and a good 2009 season to both programs.

A quick look at Utah.

We run a spread offense. Our major playmakers on offense are quarterback Brain Johnson, the Matt Asiata/Darrel Mack combo at RB, and a strong crop of receivers including Brent Casteel and Freddie Brown.

You will see a lot of trick plays which range anywhere from the wildcat formation to using backup qb (and second fastest athlete on the team) Corbin Louks in qb draw situations.

Our defense blitzes a lot and lb Paul Kruger is the star of the defense. Our main weakness is our secondary and star db Sean Smith (#4) will do a lot of trash talking. (He does usually back it up) Brice Mcain is probably the match-up to exploit in the secondary especially if you want to go deep.

We have a top five kicker in Louie Sakoda. He NEVER misses inside 45 yards.

I have watched a lot of Bama football this season, but I would love to hear a breakdown of your team.

I like the Utah fans that I have encountered. Very passionate about your team and your football. It's great to see. I also think your Fiesta Bowl team with Alex Smith could have beaten just about anyone in the country that year. I wish you would have played Auburn instead of Pitt. It would have been a good match!!

Damn it...the spread....hahahah

JK.

I think we had our warm up with UF.

What is your predominant style of offense/defense? Who are the play makers?

On O we run a similar style to Florida (it came from Urban while at Utah), with the primary playmakers being QB Brian Johnson, WR Freddie Brown, RB Matt Asiata. The O when firing on all cylinders is amazing but is prone to stall at times.

On D we run a standard 4-3 man to man coverage. Our number one CB that will most likely get your super frosh, is Sean Smith, he has 6 ints on the season and it will be a great match up. On the D line our premier player is Paul Kruger, he's one of few players Urban tried to get to go to Florida with him. He's a beast and it should be a great match up with the bama O-line.

I can't wait, I'll see you all in 'Nawlins.[/quote]

FACT: Utah has been to AND WON a BCS bowl since Alabama has.

First welcome!!!

Second,Your sig has some guts..funny, but has some guts!..

Fact: Utah can go undefeated EVERY YEAR and still not go to the NC game. :D

A quick BAMA overview:

Pro set with two tight ends. No trickery needed. We run behind arguably the best offensive line in the country anchored by Remington finalist Antoine Caldwell at C and LT Andre Smith who will play on Sundays next season and will be a top 5 pick in the draft. We have a Sr QB who has learned to be one of the best game managers in the country and can throw the ball deep when needed and when needed, we have freshman sensation Julio Jones as a target. We will pound the ball at you then pound it some more. When you throw 8 or 9 in the box, we will play action or go over the top.

Defensively, 3-4 set and we actually have about 3 plays called that our secondary leader, Rashad Johnson will check to and our leader at LB, rolando McClain, will check to. We are not easy to throw against as our DB's blanket receivers better than many BAMA teams I remember in the past. When you run agaqinst us, we have "Mt. Cody" at NT and he usually fills about two gaps at a time and requires a double team most of the time. This frees a LB to drop in coverage or come on a blitz.

Should be a good game!!!

That's what scares me the most. Our D-line is a bit undersized to begin with, and without our stud linebacker (Nai Fotu, got hurt against BYU), I'm a bit worried about what happens there.

With regards to the spread offense, it's technically what we run, but this year it's morphed to include quite a bit more of a power running attack than you would typically see from a pure Spread team like Florida (other Ute fans: correct me if you think I'm off base there). Having a couple bruisers in the backfield that like to run over people allows you to do that. :)

Depends on what defense we are facing. I would assume we would probably try to spread the field against Alabama rather than go with the power running attack.

Just a cursory look at stats:

Utah #41 Rush offense...168.42 yards per game

Utah #41 Pass offense...236.8 yards per game

Utah #31 Total Offense...405.25 yards per game

Utah #15 Scoring offense ...37.42 points per game

Utah #14 Rushing Defense...104.8 yards per game

Utah #40 Passing Defense...191.08 yards per game

Utah #18 Total Defense.....295.92 yards per game

Utah #12 Scoring Defense...17.3 points per game

Turnover Margin +11 ranking 16th

Penalties #86 60.5 yards per game

Looks like you guys have a solid squad with turnover margin telling the tale. Looking forward to it if it happens.

Im going to stop taking trash....if we lose we will never live it down. hahah...Im not saying we will...but we didnt take trash to UF.

Kirk your right.....

We got to give some respect to this team!
We havent played it yet....lets save some trash to when we beat the crap out of in the game...not before.
