| NEWS Greg Byrne needs to cancel a bunch of Alabama Football games - Bama Hammer

Well, okay. I'm not gonna waste my time on a search. I understand not wanting him as a coach, but to hate him with only college football as the reason seems pretty obtuse.

If I recall it was more about stories from his time at UA, but don't quote me on that because I don't recall the exact details. I think his (admittedly often times) goofy antics is just reason to pile on and it snowballs the whole thing...

Back to the thread topic, I think the issue will get resolved by one simple tweak, no automatic bids for conference titles. Only works if all conferences are created equal and they simply are not. SMU should have been out after losing and Clemson should not have gotten an automaitic. To make it worse they have automatic byes. Even with all of that Bama should have not lost to friggen Vandy!!!!! Yeah I know most are chapped about OU and I get that also based on how Bama played.

He's a dufus. I can't stand the fact he feels necessary to drop some statistic every time he's interviewed to try and make his mediocre teams look better than they are, or why the win against Virginia was historic. He's self-centered and a guy I feel uses Christianity as a crutch to get what he wants. He's a cry-baby on the field and never shuts up. He whines and uses his celebrity to treat people that aren't in agreement with him like crap.

I’m fine with SMU and Boise getting in, but the issue I have is conference champions automatically getting in, Clemson has no business in the playoff. But, I agree with Byrne in that we need to look at the schedule because the precedent has been set that a shitty schedule doesn’t matter.

Should Bama been in? Yes, without a doubt.
Where the hell have you been?

Agreed. The automatic bids are pretty stupid. If they took the top 12 teams based on the polls, I think it would be a more well rounded field with the 12 best teams.

If that were the case, these lower level conferences could schedule better teams in their non-confernce and that would help make things more "level" in terms of strength of schedule. The lower tier teams would gain the respect they desire in the polls by beating a top team in the regular season.

Let me preface this post by saying never in my lifetime. Do I expect to see this happen however…..

As a conference, the SEC is the toughest top to bottom conference in college football, that’s a given, you play a 12 game regular season with a conference championship game, I say play an all SEC schedule and do away with the conference championship game. There would be 15 other schools you would play 12 of the 15 and surely that strength of schedule alone would be harder than anyone else’s schedule in college football.

Could you perhaps have a two or three way tie for conference champion at the end of the year, yes, but use all of the goofy tiebreaking metrics that you have now to determine a champion. Again, too much money on the table for them to get rid of a conference championship game, but I would just like to see the SEC step up and do that which would kind of be like throwing the double bird and you know the rest of the conferences would follow suit because we are a trendsetter.

As for the future of the playoffs, who the hell knows what they will do
