this firing is a mistake. Chalk up 3-4 more years of struggle for florida automatically.

they were, at times, playing pretty good ball and the system was ok. just needed to plug in a handful of players to be in competition for the east with ease.

back up and watch the first half of the wlocp if you didn't see it. The score wasn't a great indicator of what was happening on the field. the pick 6 was not a bad throw by the QB... just a tipped ball. florida moved the ball down the field a couple of times and just came up short. The only mistakes I would definitely say were on the coaches were the play calls when you have first and goal so close to the endzone and also the decisions to not take the field goals in the first half. Other than that, well orchestrated plays and pretty good execution. For a young guy, not bad QBing either.

IMO, florida needs a signature RB and about 2 receivers to be getting pretty near par with UGA in PPG and wins.

Mac didn't get a lot of help from the 8-10 players at the beginning of the year that were involved in the fraud case. His top WR/KR and several key reserves. Throw in some injuries to starters and then minus those reserves, OUCH!!! Coach Mac will land on his feet somewhere in a less profile spot and do very well.

Not to mention Will Grier the previous year....
Coach Mac is a quality HC... his press conference...called reporters by name..
Answered questions honestly...sincere...

Apparently he'd been having difficulties with the administration ahead of the death threat misstep. There's not doubt he's a good coach, and his personnel losses this year have been huge.

From everything I've heard (coming from boosters, staff, et. al.) around Mississippi State Stricklin was a dick to those around him UNLESS they were the bigger money boosters.

The bright side may be that McElwain is a better coach than to have to be in the swamp any longer. I hope he lands a great job. I just get a feeling that he is a stand-up guy... maybe i'm wrong, but he deserves a better administration than what is going on down there in the lowlands.

He's a good Coach. Weird thing is that he is supposed to know offense and QB's... Florida was pitiful on offense.

I love Mac and got to follow him closely up here at CSU. Buuuut, when he got to UF he got pretty full of himself. Started saying weird stuff and acting hard in the media... Thinking he was more like Nick Saban than Jim Mac. The whole death threat thing was just bizarre... Thought he could say whatever he wanted I guess. Dumb move

I'd love to see him back at CSU I think that's the perfect level for him. I'm sure he will end up with a better job though sooner than later. We'll see

Cowherd may be an interesting listen today considering he was Mac's roommate in college.
