🏈 Update: Kiffin to FAU (Bama OC through playoffs)

Latest I've heard is the buyout clause is a sticking point in the Kiffin negotiations at UH. I can see why UH wants to put a big price tag on leaving early. I can also see why Kiffin would use UH as a stepping stone to a Power 5 school.

If all this, on the job training, has paid off for Kiffin I would agree. The letters AAC pretty much guarantees this job to be a stepping stone gig and there isn't a big enough buyout clause that can alter that reality.
Unless Houston gets gobbled up into a Power 5 Conference in the next 2 or 3 years... wouldn't be surprised to see it happen.

This site and possibly TD (I don't frequent that one) are a hard on for Boz but he gets quite a bit right too... Off the top of my head this season he was accurate on Hurts, Blake Barnett transfer, Shank Taylor injury, Blake S running scout QB, all before I heard it anywhere else... And I'm sure some other stuff too.

I bust his balls quite a bit but a lot of people never say **** when he's right.

I found it funny when I read that after some of the grief he caught here. Amusement purposes only.

Now that Texas has got their coach maybe they will be the benevolent Bevo and let them in.

I don't think those ass-hats will ever learn. UT and OU ran rough-shod over the entire Big XII for years and ran off aTm and Nebraska. They have all but ruined the conference and have no one left to pick up to try and make the conference reputable again. UT deserves to suck from now till forever.

I'm thinking the levers of power are too many in Austin for Hot-shot Herman to be truly successful .

Texas, arrogance is thy name. To get Oklahoma on board to sink the expansion talk this spring may have been the single stupidest thing yet they've accomplished. When that conference starts going under, most will be happy to throw them a brick.

College Football Playoff Semifinal

Peach Bowl

No. 1 Alabama vs. No. 4 Washington

Where: Georgia Dome in Atlanta

When: Dec. 31 at 2 p.m. CT

Records: Alabama 13-0, Washington 12-1

TV: ESPN

Radio: 95.3 FM, 102.9 FM

ATLANTA | All four College Football Playoff coaches —Nick Saban, Chris Petersen (Washington), Urban Meyer (Ohio State) and Dabo Swinney (Clemson) sat on the stage at the College Football Hall of Fame to talk about their teams and the upcoming semifinals, but it was Lane Kiffin who commanded the most attention, at least judging by the first few questions.

The University of Alabama’s offensive coordinator and his at-the-moment uncertain future were the subjects of two of the first four questions poised to the coaches Thursday night before Saban were tired of the line of questioning and put a halt to “hypothetical situations.”

Before that, though, the veteran Crimson Tide head coach said he supports Kiffin’s goal of obtaining a head-coaching job — Kiffin is one of the frontrunners for the Houston position.

A report Thursday morning from USA Today stated that Houston was “closing in on a decision” to make Kiffin its head coach.

“I've spoken to Lane, and as far as I know, I don't think anything has been decided about that officially,” Saban said. “I'm sure that the University of Houston will make an announcement about who their coach is when they're ready to do that.

“We are very supportive of Lane in terms of him having an opportunity to be a head coach again after the great job that he did for us. Hopefully that or some other opportunity will work out well for him so that he gets the opportunity to be a head coach again.”

If Kiffin is named the Houston head coach it is unknown if he would remain with the team to coach in the College Football Playoff. Saban said a decision that is most beneficial to both parties would be made at the appropriate time.

“We'll make that decision when we have something to make a decision about, and we'll do what's best interest for Lane, for our program, our players,” Saban said. “But I think he'll want to finish the season with us, but I can't speak to that right now because we haven't discussed something that is a hypothetical situation to this point. And I'm not going to answer any more questions about hypothetical situations.”

Houston chairman: Lane Kiffin, Les Miles in final 4 for coach
Houston Board of Regents Chairman Tilman Fertitta told reporters that the search for Houston's next football coach is down to four men.

Earlier today, sources told 247Sports that Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin, current Houston interim coach Todd Orlando and offensive coordinator Major Applewhite were in contention for the job. However, Fertitta also mentioned former LSU coach Les Miles.

"I think any one of these guys will be a great head coach at the University of Houston, Fertitta said, per FOX 26's Mark Berman. "How could you ever go wrong with a Les Miles, a Lane Kiffin, a Major Applewhite, or (interim coach) Todd (Orlando)?

"With two of them, you keep the continuity of the program. They've shown their ability with our offense and defense. How could you ever go wrong with a Les Miles and his history or the great offensive mind of a Lane Kiffin?"

Fertitta denied a USA Today report, which indicated that Kiffin had already been offered the job, from Thursday morning. However, he said that will not hurt Kiffin's chances.

"I interviewed him (Kiffin) myself once and even had dinner with him in New York," Fertitta said. "He's a fine coach, one who is under consideration. He definitely has not been offered the job."

Fertitta told reporters that they expect to make a final decision by the weekend. Regardless of the choice, Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban said that he thinks Kiffin will remain with the team through the end of their season.

I can't speak for the members here, but I can speak for this site.

I've said, for years and years, it's not what you say but how you say it. As exampled in the thread that grad linked, there's an issue there. The story is simply this; he rubbed a good many people the wrong way and a few took those feelings to the extreme.

It is what it is.

Now, as to my thoughts?

It doesn't matter whether or not this is true. What matters is these are the kind of things that aren't anyone's business. It's also an another example of very poor judgement to be posting these things on public forums.

I won't even begin to try to understand the motivation of a person who puts these kind of things out there.

I know, for a fact, he's posted some things that came straight from the locker room. The thing is, I also know who sent those original text messages out as well. Those were not meant to be shared on public forums.

I don't know the guy. I do know what kind of reputation he's created.

All that being said, a few days ago I mentioned it wasn't a good idea to assume Sark is going to just slide into the position. The message is the same as what @CrimsonBoz posted ... it's how you say it, right? (And I'm the smallest of the small when it comes to living in a PC world.)

I understand what you're saying, but is this not a reality where people are simply scared of truths and that has created an environment of falsifications and a padded reality? You say these were things not intended for a public forum, yet the person that leaked it sent it out, so doesn't it fall on that guy's shoulders? I see this as a bunch of people trying to be relevant and be the coolest "insider" with "connections". If the deal with Sarkesian is true, blame him for getting smashed and those that told their friends, not the guy three generations down the line. I was always told to keep family business in the family and don't talk to outside influences in every locker room I've ever been in. I also understand it's how you present things, as my wife let's me know that all the time, but I also think you have a lot of envious people that don't like insiders and sticklers that are just waiting to bust someone for a spelling error or speculation that never formed. If you don't like someone's comments or tone, ignore them. I don't think CrimsonBoz has ever gone after anyone outside of thise calling him out due to his insider connections. Once again, if it's outside the locker room, it's fair game in my eyes whichever way you want to word it. I also know those that truly care about the program and that have the true connections aren't the ones leaking things.

Hey man, I guess it's technically your job to police the internet... Not mine. I'm just saying over the past 2-3 years I've been pleasently surprised with the amount of accurate info I've read. He's got some stuff wrong also, as I'm sure you have (the nature of college football info), but doesn't mean it doesn't entertain the hell out of me.

I use Alabama football sites for 2 things: 1. Information 2. Entertainment. Not moral clarity.

I happen to think he's a pretty decent dude... If Sark gets drunk and pukes on himself (joking), that's on Sark, not Boz. Truth is bound to come out either way.

Roll Tide, Terry.

And if someone gives him inside information with the understanding that he's not gonna run his mouth all over the internet THAT is on him... I've always had an issue with Boz mainly because I don't think he's ever witnessed a single practice or scrimmage like he claims he has. I do believe he knows someone (whether it be a booster or whatever) that sends him updates and "insider info" and 90% of the time Boz takes that guys opinion as fact and starts spreading the shit everywhere. Like when he claimed Bateman was the "for sure starter" last year or that Hurts would start from day one. Claiming that guys tore their ACL's last year when there was nothing even close to it. That's the stuff that gets on my nerves. I know everybody wants insider info and fiend for this kind of stuff but it results in a lot of BS or opinions being spun as facts and "insider knowledge."

Here's where we disagree.... "if someone gives him inside information with the understanding he's not going to run his mouth on the internet THAT is on him". To me, that's on the guy divulging the "inside info", not Boz. I mean, if it's info you don't want out in public, why tell anyone? If it's supposed to be a secret, keep it a secret. It's pretty clear at this point that Boz does not care about keeping secrets, which I happen to appreciate.

As far as inside information... Unless I'm mistaken, Terry basically confirmed in the previous post that they get a lot of the same info. So I do believe he has some type of legitimate sources.
