For the first of two practices Tuesday, the team worked outdoors on a steamy Tuscaloosa morning. Not much different from the first few practices, but here is what I noticed.

The defensive line worked in two man drills in the following order: A'Shawn Robinson, Jarran Reed, Jonathan Allen, Dalvin Tomlinson, D.J. Pettway, Darren Lake, Da'Shawn Hand, Josh Frazier, Daron Payne, O.J. Smith.

First-year outside linebackers coach Tosh Lupoi really gets after it with his guys. He's all about the techniques he's teaching and if a player messes up, he has to go again. With Lupoi's experience along the defensive line, I expect a more consistent pass rush this season from the outside backers. I asked Ryan Anderson on Sunday about Lupoi and Anderson raved about how many new things he's learned. Should be interesting to track this season.

Bo Scarbrough remained in a black, no-contact jersey. Chris Black and Marlon Humphrey remain limited.

Geno Smith and Eddie Jackson remain the top two safeties.

The wide receivers have performed well from what I've seen. I'll continue to praise ArDarius Stewart since I have last season, as the player I think is best poised to have a great season. I think he's got speed, strength, toughness and quickness to do it all. He can play inside and out.

The quarterbacks lack consistency from what I've seen. Whether it's being late with the ball, missing the target or throwing into coverage, it seems there are still some issues to work through. Before you start freaking out, breathe. Remember that I'm only watching the first part of practice before the quarterbacks are really warmed up with their arms loosened. Plus I'm only seeing about 10 minutes of throws.
