Opps! Picking March Madness “adeptly” requires luck … not skill. If yesterday didn’t prove that … nothing will. Five of the past six winners of our office pool know as much about String Theory as they do basketball … not much. Our basketball nuts pour over their brackets for days with all kinds of notes and they rarely ever finish in the money. It’s understandable … seriously out of those who know BB really well … would any of them really have picked Kentucky, Iowa and UConn for that matter to all lose in the first round on day one? Now they might have picked those very things to happen but not based upon any empirical data.

Not sure where you are going with this. My coach was a stickler for fundamentals and wasn’t against ripping us a “new one” if we tried to “showboat”. My senior year, he rented the movie “Hoosiers” and had us watch it. He was much like “Coach Norman Dale” in that he wanted at least “4 passes” before taking a shot. It became a running joke with us so much so, that our point guard would come down the floor holding up 4 fingers and yell “4 passes, 4 passes!”

Had a similar type coach who required the called play to be run. Regardless. Even setting back up after an offensive rebound. The last game I started, I got a couple of those early and put them back up from 10-15 feet. Was quickly removed from the game with the score 4-0. I had the four points. Was inserted back into the game late and scored on a fast break. Six points on three attempts. In my mind, if I had 30 attempts that night, I score 60 points.
